Running digital distribution game sale/special thread

Not taking back the games was surprisingly nice of them.

And thanks for posting about the deal, don’t think I would have heard about it otherwise.

Bard’s Tale is $2.49 through Steam until the 22nd to celebrate the publisher’s 10th anniversary. The game also comes with the original 8-bit computer trilogy if you really want to feel retro.

The Amazon rep says they are processing another batch of keys for that bundle now but once they go, that’ll be it. They’re not up yet but get your F5 fingers ready, I guess.

FYI (sorry for triple post?) the Bard’s Tale trilogy is supposed to be included with the Steam purchase and will be, but it’s not in yet.

From Brian Fargo’s Twitter:

Crusader Kings II Sword of Islam DLC is on sale today for $2.49 (down from $9.99) through Steam. I don’t think it’s been on sale much before so it might be noteworthy to someone here.

The base game ($9.99) and some of the other, more minor, DLC is on sale as well.

Be advised: if you try playing in 64-bit Win 7, all you get is a blank screen. The game needs compatibility mode.

Those who already own the game also get the original trilogy. Bought mine last time it was on sale.

gamefly has a big sale on Paradox games. Mount and blade, hearts of iron, victoria, others.

How’s the single player on Dead Island and Fear 3?

Dead Island is a nice looking game, you’re on a large tropical resort island full of undead tourists. The melee combat is fairly satisfying, but it takes a while to get access to guns. It suffers from the Borderlands syndrome of too many weapons to choose from, you can use planks, paddles, pipes, baseball bats, all sorts of stuff. And you can modify them at a workbench to add bolts, burning rags, stuff like that.

The plot is basically a bunch of intertwined fetch quests, both the main plot and side quests.

I had some fun with it, mostly co-op but also by myself. I haven’t been inspired to finish it though.

Amazon price matched Steam’s sale on Sleeping Dogs ($25)

If you use Amazon coupon code SQRLUVOC (25% off a single digital game purchase), you can get it for $18.75

Just got an email about http://www.gog.com/ doing a Humble-Bundle-style deal on the entire Interplay catalog. If that’s your thing.

Depending on your tolerance for random button mashing, you can take this ridiculously long survey and get a $5 promo code for Gametap. They don’t have a ton of stuff for purchase at the $5 or under price point but the Hearthfire DLC for Skyrim is $4.95

I usually make a real attempt to answer surveys honestly and provide accurate information. This one broke me by question #4.

I thought this was an exaggeration until I looked up after 10 questions and noted I still had about 100 to go.

Miss out on the Origin smash & grab? You can still get these classic EA titles on sale from Gamefly:

Dragon Age II - $4.99
Dead Space 2 - $4.99
Mirror’s Edge - $4.99
SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition - $4.99
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 - $4.99
Darkspore - $4.99
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition - $9.99
Mass Effect 3 - $14.99
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - $15.99 (Amazon is supposedly planning a bundle on KoA+DLC for $11.99 so I’d skip this)
Battlefield 3 - $19.99

All titles activate on Origin.

If anyone here uses Steamgifts, check out this site.

Collects all the banner graphics for games with current give-aways and displays them on one page without duplicates. Just pick a game and click it to get a listing of Steamgift contests. So much nicer than scrolling through ten thousand The Ship & DOTA 2 contests.

If you did that survey, it took longer than 72 hours but I did indeed get my $5 code tonight and used it to get a free copy of the Hearthfire DLC for Skyrim.

Mid week sale on steam is the Assassin’s Creed franchise 75% off. Most importantly, AC: Brotherhood is $5, and it’s the first one with the AC multiplayer component, which is interesting and different. I’m going to try to organize SDMB games of the multiplayer, so I recommend grabbing it for $5.

Even if you don’t go for the multiplayer, AC:Brotherhood is a fabulous game. I spent something like 100 hours playing - managing your assassin’s guild is way fun.

$5 is a great deal considering it came out less than 2 years ago and apparently doesn’t have the draconian copy protection of AC2.
