Would you mind not treating every person who disagrees with you as though they’re maligning all conservatives? People aren’t disagreeing with you because you live in a red state, or because you’re Texan (if you are), they’re doing it because they think you’re wrong. If you lived in the bluest of blue states people would still be arguing with you on this.
Seriously, people aren’t attacking you on this because you’re a conservative.
If you want to fact-check Dr. Laura, btw, you might do better to get a Ph.D. in Physiology, rather than psychology (since that’s what she has her Ph.D. in.
Dude, you said that YOU gave him the benefit of the doubt regarding the MO ballot initiative. How is that not taking “what he says as the truth”? Moreover, you have not presented facts as offered by Rush or anyone else. Damn near everything you’ve presented as a fact in this debate (whether it came from your head or Rush’s) has been discounted by Aholibah. At what point do you say, “you know, this guy Limbaugh has been discredited so many times, called to the mat for reporting inaccuracies so many times, that I am just going to quit ‘giving him the benefit of the doubt.’ My reliance on others fact checking is lazy and fosters ignorance – both my own and those who I contaminate with my parroting of this gibberish.”?
If anyone is actually interested in what Rush Limbaugh’s arguments and stance are on this issue, and what he actually said, the actual material is available.
Here is a letter to Katie Couric that he sent at her request prior to Fox’s appearance on her show.
I listened earlier this week and his position has been severely mistorted. I support what he said and think he is correct and proper in the way he made his arguments.
Just in case anybody is actually curious.
I’m off to DC to run the Marine Marathon, so I won’t be able to participate. Hate to post and run, but wish me luck.
I’m very happy if my research has helped bring you to a more skeptical attitude when it comes to conservative talk radio. I understand the frustration of the people who are piling on you at the moment – it’s tough when somebody like Rush Limbaugh seems day after day to foist misinformation and bald-faced lies on his listening public and know that the vast majority of that public will never willingly expose themselves to more accurate, nuanced sources of information – but I really don’t want to alienate you or put you on the defensive. You’re here, reading what we write, evidencing willingness to at least consider the possibility that Rush is a demagogue with a shocking disregard for the truth whenever it gets in the way of his agenda or his ratings.
I may check back in on the thread occasionally, but I’d like to largely bow out now with the warm feeling that I’ve done a little bit of good today. And before I go, since the only thing I found earlier regarding Cardin’s position on stem cell research was a press release from his opponent, I did do a bit more digging and found this:
So this recent voting record may have been enough to convince MJF that Cardin was a better candidate than Steele on the subject of embryonic stem cell research.
Oh, man, what a load of back-pedaling crap! That video, linked in Post#54 here, shows Rush to be an adolescent boob making fun of someone. Unless he just got a sudden case of Marionette Syndrome. Bleaaachhh!
Thanks to Aholibah and **Loopydude for your informative posts here.
Do you honestly believe your own shit or does it vary acording to what you’re eating?
If the latter, might I suggest you join and contribute your amazingly bloated (or should that be “full of hot air as in a burning brain-fart”) sense of grandiosity to the following site?
He definately stepped in it this time… once he went over the top there is no way the MSM is going to let him off the hook.
I’m afraid we are going to see MJF flopping all over TV until the election and it will get some sympathy votes although Dick Morris said a few days ago it would backfire because voters know when they are being manipulated.
Has anyone one seen anybody interview MJF who has asked tough questions about the substance of the ad? Maybe Chris Wallace will this weekend.
Just popping in to note that Diane Rehm ripped Rush a new one on her show yesterday. I don’t know how it squares with journalistic integrity, but it was fun to listen to:
Every one of these statements is grossly misleading if not flatly untrue, allrelying on special technical exceptions and caveats that allow one to say things that distort reality and mislead.
Heck: Rush’s defense is that “faking” is a misleading way to characterize his claim that Fox was “acting.” Riiiight.
So, so much for your lazy, lame drive by. Have a fun time with your Marathon. I hope you win.
Bravely said, but futile. Freud had it exactly backwards, it isn’t “penis envy” its penis shame. Thats why we’re always looking for some dark place to hide it.
Dick Morris should know better. If 2000 and 2004 is any indication, no, they don’t know when they’re being manipulated. Many of them, anyway. If they’ve smartened up any, MJF will win out because he’s “manipulating” by being himself. I’m much more scared of Parkinson’s and MS and ALS and other such diseases than I am of anything the Republicans try to scare me with (except Republicans in power itself).
Dude, it’s the Pit. This is our gloves-off, get-down-and-wallow-in-the-mud-and-pigshit forum. If you’d rather discuss things like this on a purely intellectual level with no flaming, there’s GD.
