Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 2)

The plan sounds reasonable. Lets do it.

The Russian interior ministry in Moscow is apparently on fire.

Presumably Mr. Courts meant the Mig 29 rather than the Mig 19, which is a 50’s design that last served in various Warsaw Pact air forces in the early 70’s.

They seem to have an awful lot of fires in Russia the last year. Maybe they were there all along, and the media has chosen to focus on them owing to the war

I’ve always been amused by that French phrasing: “A fire announced itself”.

All very formal and polite.

Poland is ready to give the rest of its MiG-29s to Ukraine.

Reports on Twitter of a massive missile attack on Ukraine, with several waves of cruise missiles hitting cities throughout the country.

They apparently are trading MiG-29s for F-16s. That is a good trade.

Reports of missile strikes all across Ukraine.

Thank you.

Here’s what happened in Bryansk: Russian security officials claimed a small Ukrainian armed group had crossed the Russian border last week into the southern Bryansk region. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said the agency was carrying out operations following “armed Ukrainian nationalists who violated the state border.” Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incident as a “terrorist attack.” A local official said two civilians were killed.

God, is there anything worse than a bully who starts crying because someone hits them back? I really, really fucking hate people like that.

Putting aside the 11 killed, I’ve got to wonder which are the more valuable (irreplaceable/unreparable) assets lost. The Ukrainian targets damaged/destroyed or the 80+ strategic missiles expended?

That depends on if the missiles are native Russian produced missiles or if they’ve started receiving missiles from China. If it’s the former then it’s likely Russia got the short end of the stick. If they’re Chinese missiles, then there’s likely a lot more where they came from, and using a double digit amount is probably not a large number for them.

I can’t see China supplying strategic missiles to Russia that could be used against their own cities. These are “shoot at cities in another country” weapons; not battlefield weapons.

News reports indicate that not all launches reached their targets. Air defenses absorbed some unspecified proportion of the raid.

But apparently the Kinzhals had a 100% penetration rate. Hopefully the Russians have few of these.

Here are reported missiles used and cost:

I just wanted to write a post, starting with “I can’t see China…” ;o)

I highly doubt they roll the dice and risk a brickload of billions of $ worth of sanctions levvied on them, by the western world for what? … a couple of million worth of weapon sales to a country that is terrorizing civilians?

I am sure they would not like to see a chinese missile being pulled out of a children’s hospital in front of live-television
