Note this is the guy whose daughter got car bombed a couple of months ago, [likely by Ukraine(https://thehill.com/policy/international/3675156-us-officials-say-ukraine-was-behind-car-bomb-that-killed-daughter-of-russian-nationalist-nyt/)). So he may be strongly invested is seeing Ukraine punished. Still it is very surprising that he is capable of such open defiance. Putin’s hold must be weakening.
Putin is a fascist dictator. But not a Nazi.
Here is the thing. Many folks there are indeed ethnic Russians. However, many know Russia is a corrupt shithole. I doubt all the ethnic Russians want to be part of Putin’s fascist Russia. Zelenskyy could likely make most of the populace happy by having them be part of Ukraine, but a large amount of self-government.
Maybe soon it’s Putin’s hold weakening on Dugin’s collar, by an open high rise window.
You are assuming those “Russian separatists” are still “separatists”.
A certain number of them would have fled the war zone.
A certain number of them would have switched sides.
Ancestry and language are not destiny - there are many people fighting for Ukraine whose first language is Russia, including the current president of Ukraine, Zelenskyy (he’s fully fluent in Ukrainian, but it was his second language). I think we need to be careful about making assumptions about anyone who survives this war.
Fine, just let BigGuy shove LittleGuy off some land because BigGuy is bigger and has more hurty things (that, apparently, are beyond BigGuy’s skill level, but they still hurt). We want Donbas back in UA’s hands because we do not want to set a precedent that it is possible to just go grab some (any) of someone else’s turf because you want it and you (sorta) can.
This is hilarious!
(At least, as a helicopter pilot I find it hilarious.)
I don’t understand what this means.
Liz Truss lettuce:
What about avocados? They look promising, until they suddenly rot.
Video of the Antonivka Road Bridge at Kherson showing the parts demolished by the Russians, as well as the effects of the earlier Ukrainian HIMARS strikes on it. The HIMARS was not completely successful in severing the connection, but, evidently, it was successful enough.
(Video quality better at source)
The liberation of Kherson is such a big morale booster for Ukrainians. It’s wonderful to see smiling faces again
What a feast. You can always eat well at Grandmother’s house.
Apparently this is a Ukrainian helicopter that’s been sitting inoperable at that airfield since well before the war. When the Russians took the territory, they painted Z’s on it. Now it’s back in Ukrainian hands, but it’s still just an inoperable Mi-8.
It is a gunship (an Mi-24; an Mi-24P and not a Hind-E, given the fixed cannon on the nose). They make occasional appearances (c.f. this dramatic video from a few weeks back) but Ukraine doesn’t have very many of those—Wikipedia isn’t totally clear and it’s a little bit of a word problem, but says they had 15 in flying condition in 2014, lost 6, planned to return 16 to service, and had 15 donated from the Czech Republic. I’m not sure if the fact that they’re even screwing around with it means they think it might be gotten working or if it’s one of the known-inoperable ones but if it can be returned to service it’s a nice get for them.
Even if it’s inoperable now, well, unlike Russia, Ukraine has a supply of spare parts, and knows what to do with them.
The captions said that the battery was stolen. If that’s all that’s wrong with it, well, batteries are easy to replace.
It was a joke/sketch. ‘Oh, the Russians stole the battery! We’ll just push-start it like a car!’
I recommend against pretending, and how to avoid pretending was part of the recommendation.
That’s the impression I got, too, that he was trying to hand prop it.
The Wagner Group executes a convict that joined them and then defected to Ukraine. The article suggests the convict/mercenary was returned to Russia in a POW exchange.
Reminds me of an old Second City routine mocking the Sea-Sea-Sea-Pea wherein the person could not get his car to start, lifted the hood to find the caps taken off the battery, drinking straws sticking out of the holes, prompting him to curse, “Uzbeks!”
I think of my own hometown and how thankful I am that the US hasn’t been invaded since 1812. My reaction wouldn’t be ang different. I’m too old to fight. I’d hide my family and wait it out just like these people.
