One of the interesting side effects of Russia declaring open war on the West is that the full horsepower of the entire West can be usefully proxied through Ukraine to attack a lot of stuff that needs attacking that would be a wee bit too provocative if the US or Israeli Air Force did it.
Surely just a random coincidence. It’s not like Iran has done anything to tick off certain countries.
I do wonder about that Iranian fire… Officially, I don’t think that Ukraine and Iran are at war with each other, are they? A direct attack by Ukraine on that factory would be a clear act of war… if it could be traced back to Ukraine. Was it Ukraine anyway? Was it some non-state actor sympathetic to Ukraine? Was it some other country, counting on the war providing enough uncertainty? Or, of course, was it just an accident that nobody’s crying too much about?
Iran has had a lot of civil unrest lately. Western aligned dissidents might target a drone factory to embarrass the regime.
Odd that the Shahed factory is getting zero coverage. The only stories I can dig up are ten months old, save for a seven second youtube clip showing some smoke somewhere.

Good advertisement for their anti-aircraft systems. And they can use the money from those sales to replace their aircraft. Putin has it all figured out.
They could spin it as, they knew the pilot was about to defect to Ukraine, so they shot it down. Makes them look less incompetent, while also sending a message to any pilots who are thinking about defecting.
Shit happens. Your own SAMs are often one of the larger threats you face. Positive ID of friendlies is a very difficult problem. Still.
Given how much defense has dominated the air battle from the git-go I’m surprised this isn’t more common.

Putin to stage first nationwide exercise simulating nuclear attack from the West
It is scheduled to take place on October 3 and will see Vladimir Putin regime present the West as a nuclear aggressor.
The one-day nuclear attack exercise, which has only ever been done region by region, will include preparation for the destruction of up to 70% of Russian housing stock and life support facilities.

The US DoD is actively considering / planning to add US trainers on the ground in Ukraine.
I hope the military is extra vigilant on Oct. 3. It seems to me the best time to launch a strike that might cause a nuclear response would be on the day when a ‘practice alert’ has your population already in bunkers.
