That done blowed up real good. Won’t buff out easily.
I don’t think there’s enough duct tape and baling twine to do the job.
It’s been a tough week for Gen Zaluzhny. Russia is sending a tough message. He’s probably been on their hit list since the war began.
Chastiakov leaves a wife and four children.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine seem to be suggesting it was a tragic accident:
[Translated:]
Klymenko Mountains:
The tragedy in Chayki is beginning to be overgrown with various information from “sources”. Therefore, I officially announce:
As a result of primary investigative actions, it was possible to find out the first circumstances of the tragedy. Today was the birthday of the deceased Major Chastyakov.
He returned home from work with gifts from his colleagues
began to show relatives.
He took out a gift box with grenades inside and started showing one of the ammunition to his son. These were grenades of the new Western model.
First, the son took the ammunition and started turning the ring. Then the serviceman took the grenade from the child and pulled out the ring, provoking a tragic explosion.
The police found 5 more such unexploded grenades in the apartment. They will be sent for examination
The police found a fellow soldier who gave a fatal gift. His office was already searched and 2 similar grenades were seized. Primary investigative actions are ongoing.
I urge you not to spread unofficial information.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, wait for the official conclusions of the investigation
Sounds like the sort of thing one would normally hear happening in Russia, but I guess everyone can make silly mistakes.
I wonder if the child survived?
Reminds me of the polish politician last year that was playing with a Grenade launcher Ukraine gave him. It wasn’t unloaded.

“Familiarity breeds contempt” is a saying in English for a reason. I don’t know the Ukrainian (or Russian) equivalent but I’ll bet there is one.
Not sure how much responsibility the kid had. Not much I’d say.
Given a person in his role and him knowing he was the target of assassination plots by a very capable adversary, you might expect him to be alarmed upon opening a gift-wrapped box of grenades, no matter what the “from” tag on the outside said.
All assuming of course that this version of events is closer to the truth than any other.
Interesting profile about General Zaluzhny. He is known as a modern commander. That’s important because it should align more closely with NATO tactics.
It’ll be interesting to see what the military does after F-16’s arrive with newly trained pilots.
Born into the family of a Soviet serviceman, Valery Zaluzhny once said he was always committed to distancing himself from the excessive hierarchy of the Soviet Army.
By the time he went to military school in the mid-1990s Ukraine was already an independent state.
/snip /
Colleagues we spoke to say that from the onset of his career he was keen on building relationships of trust with his subordinates as well as delegating command decisions.
I remember 20/20 ran a investigation into adoption from former Soviet bloc countries. The babies were in cribs in very large wards. There was very little interaction with the nurses. The babies had behavioral problems after adopting in the US.
I strongly suspect the Ukrainian kids will be adopted or sold to households in various countries for a profit.

Polish media reported that the present was a grenade launcher and that Szymczyk himself had accidentally fired it in his office, in what would be a serious breach of safety regulations .
Ya think?

Those folks must have some pretty wild birthday parties.
Probably have to add some Bondo or JB Weld.
This could be significant news. Ukraine breeched the river with a small force a few weeks ago. Now they have armored vechiles supporting that supports almost a battalion (300) of soldiers.
Maybe Russia moved too many troops to the other battles? I hope Ukraine can make significant gains. It would help with morale. Winters coming and the utility infrastructure will be targeted again.

Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces transferred a limited number of armored vehicles to the east (left) bank of Kherson Oblast and are continuing larger-than-usual ground operations on the east bank with a light infantry grouping of roughly battalion size. Russian milbloggers amplified a picture on November 6 purporting to show a Ukrainian tracked amphibious transport (PTS) vehicle carrying an infantry fighting vehicle onto the east bank near Krynky (30km northeast of Kherson City and 2km from the Dnipro River).[1] Other milbloggers claimed on November 7 that a Ukrainian amphibious infantry fighting vehicle crossed the Dnipro River on its own near Krynky and amplified separate footage on November 7 purporting to show a destroyed Western amphibious armored personnel carrier in an unspecified location on the east bank.[2] Select Russian milbloggers claimed that either one or two Ukrainian PTS vehicles crossed the Dnipro near Krynky, while other milbloggers claimed that Ukrainian forces transferred several unspecified armored vehicles to the area.[3] Russian milbloggers claimed that more than 300 Ukrainian personnel (about a battalion’s worth) are operating on the east bank in the Krynky area and continue to claim that Ukrainian forces maintain positions in central Krynky and nearby areas.[4] One milblogger claimed that several hundred Ukrainian personnel are operating throughout east bank Kherson Oblast.[5] Russian milbloggers claimed that combat engagements continued near Krynky, as well as near Poyma (12km east of Kherson City and 4km from the Dnipro River), Pishchanivka (13km east of Kherson City and 3km from the Dnipro River), and Pidstepne (17km east of Kherson City and 4km from the Dnipro River), but did not claim that Ukrainian attempts to advance on November 6 and 7 were particularly larger than in previous days.
Avdiivka is rapidly turning into the next Bakhmut. I expect to see reports of Russian attacks 6 months from now.
It has to be extremely demoralizing to repell a attack and then face another one days later.
Ukraine attacked the FSB security service in Skadovsk. The long range missiles are proving their worth.

Ukrainian military repelled Russian assaults near town of Avdiivka, says general staff
Ukraine’s general staff reported its military repelled Russian assaults in widely separated sectors of the front.
Russian forces have been bearing down since mid-October on the shattered town of Avdiivka, known for its coking plant and its position as a gateway to the city of Donetsk, 20km (12 miles) to the east.
Ukraine’s general staff, in its latest evening report, said its forces had repelled 11 attacks near Avdiivka, 15 in the nearby Maryinka sector and 22 further north-east in Bakhmut, a town seized by Russian in May. Six attacks were repelled further north near Kupiansk, where Russian forces have been active.
Russia’s investigative committee, in an account of Thursday’s fighting, said Ukrainian forces shelled the town of Skadovsk in a Russian-occupied area of southern Kherson region. Ukrainian news reports and online observers said the target was a base of the Russian FSB security service in Skadovsk. Dead and wounded were reported. Anton Gerashchenko, from Ukraine’s internal affairs ministry, said of the strike on Skadovsk: “So the occupiers are well aware they not safe, that they are being watched and can be destroyed at any time. Ukraine uses high-precision western weapons for these strikes.”
Russia’s defence ministry reported strikes on Ukrainian troops and equipment near Bakhmut, the Reuters news agency said, adding it could not independently confirm reports from either side.

ordinance
Ordinance is a law of a city or county. Ordnance is military shit that goes boom.
Sorry, pet peeve.
I know they’re useful, but I always feel concerned for this dogs.
I forgot there’s a similar sounding word. I appreciate the correction.
I hope the dogs are used for clearing liberated villages. They would be terrified by the noise at the front.
I had to laugh at the dogs reaction to explosives. Looked like he was taking a dump.

The dogs at least don’t realize the gravity of what they’re doing. They’re just out havin’ fun and finding things for their favorite people in exchange for treats. Human mine clearers know they’re poking around among professional quality diabolical boobytraps that maim or kill.

It’s not a surprise. Proves again that Russia doesn’t care about world condemnation.
They may have beaten some of these men into submission. But I wouldn’t want to be one of the officers. They have to sleep sometime.
