Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 2)

You and everyone else!

Thank you PatrickLondon! Your sources were very good. I should really stick with ones like that which are non-US.

When Putin was talking yesterday, I thought his target audience was probably Russia but some of his remarks sounded like he was speaking to foreigners. I figured that mostly Russians understand him.

Not just Ukraine, Russia targeting satellites.

Russia might be getting more desperate according to this BBC article.

Some points in article:

  • Trying to scare Diplomatic staff out of Kiev.
  • Battlefield losses mounting.
  • Moscow itself under threat.
  • No signs of Ukraine losing European support.

Good news but hoped it would be sooner.

What was the purpose of Russia using a nuclear capable missile to launch dummy warheads at Ukraine?

Key Points

  • Russia fired an RS-26 Oreshnik missile at Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Oblast on May 23-24, 2026, causing no casualties, with the launch confirmed from Kapustin Yar in Astrakhan Oblast.
  • Recovered debris confirmed inert warhead simulators, a warhead deployment unit for six reentry vehicles, and electronic components manufactured primarily in Russia and Belarus.

Somewhere between a test and a warning?

Or an attempted actual strike, not knowing that some corrupt officer already stole the warheads and replaced them with dummies?

That’s a $30-50 million warning.

I think more like psychological warfare / an attempt to demoralize the Ukrainian public.

I see it as basically an advanced form of sabre rattling. I can’t defeat you on the front? I’ll remind you that I could hit you with nuclear weapons. Of course, I won’t. Because if I was going to, I would have done it just then.

Ukraine brings St. Petersburg under attack nearly 700 miles from the border. Putin’s rival economic meeting is getting an eyeful of the burning refinery. Also a ship was effectively hit in the naval port bringing the Russian Baltic Sea fleet into range.

Also a “low key” - idiots - from or formerly from the US are showing the flag.

"This year, for the first time in nearly a decade, a low-key US delegation is also due to participate in the forum. It is led by the head of the US Commission of Fine Arts Rodney Mims Cook Jr, the official who has been overseeing President Donald Trump’s ballroom project at the White House.

US right-wing commentator Candace Owens and Putin-backing US actor Steven Seagal are also due to attend."

So once again, optics over results, because a news-reader and an action-movie actor are known for their negotiating skills, just like their boss.
