Russia invades Ukraine {2022-02-24} (Part 2)

Russia does have some basis for paranoia, having been invaded from Europe catastrophically several times.

But IMO Putin has weaponised that trait as an excuse for Moldova, Crimea, and now this invasion.

But that’s bullshit. Every country in Europe has been invaded several times in history. At some point you have to stop letting people use this as an excuse for just continuing to be assholes.

The only time Russia was actually (sorta) conquered though, the invaders came from the east.

Or from within.

This is just a smokescreen by Putin. All this BS about Ukraine being Nazi, and Putin afraid of NATO were Big Lies.

Look, the West forgot the lessons of Hitler and WW2, and let a Nazi Dictator take a big chunk of a nation - in WW2 it was Czechoslovakia, but in 2014 it was Crimea. This gave Putin the idea he could keep carving bits, re-establishing the old Russian Empire. So now the world is involved in another “world war”, but on a different scale.

Yet another mysterious death of a prominent Russian has occurred. This time it’s the head of a shipyard that specializes in non-nuclear submarines.

Is he the one who was smoking on their Aircraft Carrier?

A little present from Ukraine.

another one rides the bus …

Hey! He’s gonna fall by you!

How many falling-out-the-window deaths are we up to now? I mean, it’s a freaking meme at this point but, no, just your routine falling-out-the-window death, I guess. Happens all the time.

Well, yeah. Falling out a window is exactly what we expect now from Russian oligarchs. One surviving the next few years, now, THAT would be suspicious.

So Is that how Putin is going to die?

I guess the supplies of polonium are running low, what with sanctions and all.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/26/europe/russia-engels-airbase-ukrainian-drone-shot-intl-hnk/index.html

CNN has been unable to independently verify Russian reports the drone was deliberately shot down and did not reach its intended target.

So… The Russians are lying and the drone actually did hit its target as planned; or, they shot it down and then it fell on them. :stuck_out_tongue:

(It would be really funny if the shot-down drone crashed on an oligarch. At least, it would be different from falling out of a window.)

It would be better if the drone caught the oligarch while falling from a window and then got shot down and crashed into its target, which turned out to be a burning car full of killer bees. Did I miss anything?

… then burned down, fell over and sank into the swamp.

Pretty soon it will be just another “natural causes”.

I initially LOLed, then felt compelled to get all pedantic and check because I am that way. Apparently most of it is produced in Russia:

Only about 100 grams are produced each year, practically all of it in Russia, making polonium exceedingly rare.[54][55]

I don’t think the source was listed whenever I last bought some.

That’s exactly why polonium was used, for those high-profile assassinations: They wanted to send a message, to leave absolutely no doubt as to who was behind them.
