if the last 2 years showed us something it is this:
RU is HUGE on OVERPROMISING and UNDERDELIVERING …
every single piece of equipment was shown to be hyped up … and performing way poorer than thought…
5.000.000 T90 tanks being taken out by $5000 drones, etc… the invincible hypersonic missile that gets taken out by run-of-the-mill AA, etc… Moscva sunk, submarine sunk, etc…
and don’t get me started on their special forces …
The story is told that, when Eisenhower became President, one of the top brass bragged to him that they could get 500 planes airborne on 30 minutes notice. Ike looked at his watch, and said “OK, start now.”. And of course, they couldn’t do it.
So yeah, it’s good to run tests like that every so often.
The Alaska Purchase, a historical agreement in which Russia sold the territory to the U.S. for $7.2 million, is now being labeled as ‘illegal’ by Putin, asserting Russia’s claim over Alaska.
“We suggest starting with Alaska,” the Two Majors Telegram channel—which has more than 530,000 subscribers—wrote. Beyond that, the blogger wrote that the Kremlin should look to “Dnieper Ukraine, Bessarabia, the Grand Duchy of Finland, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, the Central Asian states of Russian Turkestan, most of the Baltic provinces, and a significant part of Poland.”
The only AA system that has shot down Kinzhal “hypersonic” missiles is Patriot, which I wouldn’t describe as run-of-the-mill.
That said, Kinzhal is not a proper hypersonic missile. It’s just an air-launch version of the regular Iskander ballistic missile. All long range ballistic missiles travel at hypersonic speeds, but properly fancy hypersonic weapon systems can maneuver at hypersonic speeds, enabling evasive maneuvers and terminal guidance to target. Ballistic missiles might be travelling just as fast, but they’re following ballistic trajectories which obviously greatly simplifies interception.
The advantage that Kinzhal has over Iskander is just that it can be launched from anywhere a Mig-31 can get to, rather than wherever your ground launcher is, so you can come at the enemy from unexpected angles with very little warning.
The document did not, according to this translation, mention Alaska at any point, or state that the sale of that or any other territory formerly owned by Russia was sold “illegally.”
Ukraine claims to be in production of a system to disable drones by generating white noise in their operating frequencies. It has a range of 250 meters. If it works that would be pretty important to have on vehicles as well as infantry positions.
Seems like it could prevent Russian drones from being able to drop grenades on Ukrainian heads, but unfortunately, drones could still loiter from 250+ meters away from the Ukrainians and provide reconnaissance/photos to Russian forces.
Good point. So it might be good against FPV drones but a drone used to adjust artillery fire would still be a problem. Sure looks like drones are going to need an integrated defense system to counter them.
I heard that already in 2001, when I was in Moscow, from the old lady I rented a flat with my wife. She also said that Crimea was Russian, of course. You see where this tropes are heading. Nothing offical, just rumors on Telegram. Plus ça change…
I did not say that Putin officially said it, I claim that it is a trope that gets repeated again and again in the right circles. And the normal Russian citizen likes it.
No problem, have a good night’s rest, I know you meant well.
Putin, on the other hand, lets this rumors build up pressure, and then he must act accordingly. What else is he supposed to do? A lousy modus operandi, but we are not his intended audience.
