O President Ralph?
What did the President know, and when did he stop knowing it?
Ryan doesn’t need votes. If Trump and Pence are both knocked out, Ryan succeeds automatically.
So, he might try a double Impeachment.
Well, I don’t think it was him saying that (Mother wouldn’t approve of him taking such a tone), but there is one administration official who does not actually have Trump as his boss, and who would also have the most to gain from a situation where Trump had to leave early.
If Trump is actually removed from office and the whole administration appeared to be complicit/involved–like arrests of members of the inner circle–there would be enormous pressure on Pence to resign.
As appalling as I think Ryan Presidency would be, I tend to think that anyone getting the office that way would be fairly powerless. Everything would be in total disarray and everyone would be terrified about the up-coming elections. That’s not an atmosphere to push an aggressive agenda–party discipline would be a mess. And after 2018, who knows?
I’m sure Ryan wants to be president someday, but this path is literally his worst nightmare. It’s the end of that dream, not the beginning.
I’ll bite the bullet, fellow Dopers, and be the one to console Ivanka in her time of need. No need to thank me.
Not to mention, if Ryan were to somehow attain office that way, the GOP would be a disgraced brand as a whole. It’s one thing to have President Trump, who won with a plurality, be forced from office. But if this investigation implicates numerous others like Pence, like Sessions, like Tillerson, and even congressmen like Nunes who were complicit in trying to stonewall the congressional investigations…the party would be seriously damaged in a run up to 2018’s elections.
