Russian military vehicles enter Ukraine - now Ukraine claims to have destroyed Russian vehicles

The Guardian claimed earlier to have observed a Russian military convoy, including APCs, crossing into Ukraine.

A later article says NATO also reported a Russian incursion into Ukraine. This seems unsurprising, but it’s still evidence, rather than speculation.

The same article reports that Ukraine claims to have destroyed Russian military vehicles that crossed the border. Russia denies the vehicles were ever in Ukraine.

What’s going on? If the Ukrainians have actually destroyed Russian vehicles, does that mean there are also Russian casualties? If Russia denies they crossed into Ukraine, does that mean they’re saying Ukraine are destroying Russian assets within Russia? Surely that would be intolerable to the Russians.

Why is this not a BIG deal, whichever story you believe?

Why would Russia care? If there happened to be Russian built vehicles destroyed they were obviously seized in Ukraine by the courageous but not at all Russian Ukrainian Separatists.

So by “Russian military vehicles” they mean military vehicles built in Russia, as opposed to vehicles belonging to the Russian military?

Ukraine is saying it was a convoy that originated in Russia and crossed over the border. Russia is saying “Vehicles? What vehicles?”

If Ukraine is telling the truth, they have attacked the Russian military. Is this something Russia would be willing to ignore in order to deny their military was ever in Ukraine?

If Russia is telling the truth, what’s the likely truth of the situation? That Ukraine destroyed something, but nothing belonging to the Russian military?
