We just cut the cable recently and have been adapting to the new situation. We recently found a Russian TV series on Amazon Prime called “The Sniffer”. The important characteristic of this show is that it was filmed in Russia with Russian dialog, and it is subtitled in English.
Since my spouse is Russian, this series works out very well for us. I can easily read the subtitles while my spouse hears the Russian dialog.
What other series (or movies) are available like this (Russian dialog, English subtitles) on Hulu, Amazon, or other “cut the cable” Roku channels?
(Not being sarcastic, honestly) I don’t know about any other programs, but my daughter has enjoyed Masha and the Bear for a few years, and before English dubbing was available, I liked to try to translate the bit of dialogue there for her
Are there any deep, intelligent Russian TV dramas an American could access? I’d love to try my hand at one…
Looking through the “you might like…” section on Amazon Prime, there are two programs called “Madame Detective” and “Ex-Wife” that seem to be Russian language imports.
Well, “The Sniffer” is kind of a cop show with a twist. The main character has an extremely sensitive sense of smell and can determine lots of information just by smelling a crime scene. He has a neurotic shrew of an ex-wife, and a troubled teenage son. He is not an “official” cop, but is partnered with a womanizing police detective.
So while “The Sniffer” is somewhat entertaining, I wouldn’t call it a deep, intelligent drama.
