According to EW. Not a terrible choice. I just hope they keep the wiseassness he brings to his roles to a minimum. And, it’ll bring in the ladies for the inevitable beefcake shots.
As for the movie itself, I hope the writers leave the Guardians and the GL Corp out, at least for the first movie. The story should focus on Hal Jordan and his learning to use the ring and, of course, defeating Sinestro. A good writer should be able to leave an opening for the Guardians and the GL Corp for the sequel.
What happened to him starring in a proper *Deadpool *movie? He’s pretty much perfect for that character if they don’t butcher it like they did in Wolverine.
While I like the casting choice- Ryan Reynolds is one of those “just hasn’t yet hit it” action stars- I’m a bit dubious about the movie itself. How do you make a movie about a guy who can do anything he wants interesting?
All of that being said, I am a little worried that Legendary is going to start just churning DC crap out. They’ve done well with Batman, Singer didn’t perform nearly as well with Superman as he did with X-Men. I can’t see a Green Lantern movie having a huge pull for non-comic fans. He’s just not iconic enough.
Exactly what I was thinking. Green Lantern has some incredible SFX potential, (just like Iron Man did), and can be positioned as a summer tentpole. A good script and firm director and this will gross $300 million easily.
I like Reynolds though and I also thought he would make a perfect Deadpool. I hope this doesn’t interfere with that.
Same might be said about Superman. I mean, he’s practically all-powerful (some versions anyway).
Me, I think a good movie setup would be have him learn the ring from Sinestro and fight a Manhunter on Earth. Second movie, evil Sinestro. Third, Sinestro Corps.
Iron Man was iconic before it became a movie in a way that Green Lantern is not.
I’ll put it this way, when we ran around pretending to be comic characters as children NO ONE EVER chose Green Lantern. Green Lantern was my FATHER’S favorite super hero when he was a kid.
I see a Green Lantern movie being more akin to the Fantastic Four than Iron Man.
A great Green Lantern movie should be more Star Wars than Spider-Man, but I’m thinking this will be another superhero movie that barely moves past the origin by the time the end credits run.
Is he playing Hal Jordan? He seems almost more a Guy Gardner type or will he be Kyle what’s his name?
I wonder if it will an earth bound adventure or something we’ll see the entire GL corps.
A long time ago I thought Kevin Costner would have made a good Hal Jordan. (well maybe not the wearing tights part)
While my comic book reading zenith was around 89-93, I can still remember the Green Lantern involved in a couple of them.
I’m a big Ryan Reynolds fan, but I still put him on the B list when I think of big action stars. I just don’t think Reynolds is ready to carry a whole movie by himself (I know Waiting was basically carried on his back, but that was hardly a summer blockbuster.)
I see this winding up in the recycle bin with Catwoman and Daredevil.
