Here is the twitter: Shit My Dad Says, which I love. The second posting is the trailer for the show version coming in fall on CBS.
I love the twitter, I love the dad that it’s about. I want to read the book, I’ve heard only good things about it. This show looks bad though. Looks corny. I like the actors playing the older son and his wife (Will Sasso and Nichole Sullivan, both from Mad TV), that’s about it though.
I wonder if they’ll write in some of the jokes from Twitter and how much they’ll change. The dad doesn’t seem to have a wife, although in the Twitter he does. The oldest son doesn’t have a kid either. Maybe they’re saving that for future seasons?
I’ll probably watch the first episode just to give it a chance.
I did chuckle at, “I apologize for how I acted. You are a very nice homosexual.”
“…well I like to think so.”
I had pretty much the same reaction. I wonder how much humor is going to be lost by not being able to profanely swear on network television. The other problem is that they’re going to have to come up with ways to be funny without relying solely on Shatner. Every decent sitcom has several characters that can produce laughs.
I saw the trailer and thought it was very bad as well. Shatner is outacted by the actor playing the son. His pauses and gestures and odd and awkward. This show is going to need more than Shattner’s name to keep it going.
I wish they hadn’t tried to turn this into a show. Or, at least if they were going to turn it into a show, to put it on Comedy Central or HBO or something where they could keep the feel of the twitter quotes.
