I’d enjoyed the guys blog/tweet or whatever. His dad does say some fun crazy shit. I think the network did well with calling it “bleep my dad says”.
The show–good enough to watch at least once more. Most of the funny lines were in the commercials, but there was enough spark to think “hmm, maybe more good stuff here.” Will Sasso and Anna Nicole?? Big smiles. *
*Came home in the worst mood in months. Hated the world and every creature in it. Actually chuckled at the whole 'not able to talk when The Dad says ‘yeah, I’ll come live with you’ "
It has potential. I’m hoping it get past the awkward phase quickly, and drops some of the attempted cutesie stuff.
The main character is good, but needs work (the narrator), Shatner as the Dad is pretty great, and he was a bit over the topmast the beginning but seemed rounded off by the end of the episode.
I found it unfunny and kind of dull frankly. I get that they are setting up the general premise and establishing the characters but it could have been much better. I’ll probably give it a few more chances.
I found William Shatner surprisingly funny. I hated the sappy story, though. Anna Nicole was the weak link in the show, I thought. I’ll probably watch it again.
It wasn’t nearly as funny as I thought it might be. The son needs to stop smirking all the time and Shatner was funnier when he stopped trying too hard.
Nicole Sullivan looked weird and I really hope Will Sasso’s role increases.
I thought it was just okay, but agree Shatner was surprisingly good. I know Denny Crane had a lot of comedy and he appeared on 30 Rock but this is his first actual sitcom isn’t it?
What was your take on the “Why can’t anybody imitate me correctly?” line- funny or too obvious?
I usually don’t watch any new shows, but I can’t miss something with Shatner. Missed it last night, watching it online. 90 seconds into it I remember why I don’t watch sitcoms anymore. Lame cliche jokes so far.
I didnt care for it. I realize you hire William Shatner because, hey, he’s William Shatner (kinda like Christopher Walken), but he didn’t even seem to be trying to make that guy into a believable character; it was just shtick. Then again I don’t really watch sitcoms, so maybe this is how all of them are now.
Could be, something was definitely off and it was distracting. What surprised me initially was that she’s a spokesperson for Jenny Craig, having lost some weight, but she looked heavier in the episode than I have ever seen her look. Her hair was horrible and she looked…old.
Okay, so maybe it’s not the Hank or Cavemen of the season. I need to give this a second episode (where the whole thing isn’t setting up the premise) to see if it’s worth my time.
And it’s $#*! My Dad Said, not BLEEP. Get it right!
I just watched it and it was good. The cast was excellent, Jonathan Sadowski blows them all out of the water, he’s got great comedy timing. I find Nicole Sullivan also to be great with the comedy, at least based on her past roles, such as “King of Queens.” The rest of the cast holds up fine and they have great chemistry together.
The writing is average. The big problem is, I could say the punchline of every other joke. They are using old rehashed jokes, not too good. But maybe that’ll improve.
It’s got potential but Sadowski is lucky as he is outstanding here and even if this show doesn’t hold up, he certainly has (or should have) a future in comedy.
