Sad news, but I couldn't be prouder of my family.

My uncle died Sunday. He was a good man, and a good person to have in my family, so that is sad.

Uncle Butch had two kids - his son Matt, and his daughter Suzette. Matt is married and has three kids. Suzette lives with her girlfriend and adopted her girlfriend’s daughter.

Note - Uncle Butch, Matt and Suzette all grew up as small town Texas Baptists. A trip to Temple, Texas was considered a big deal, and Waco is considered a big city. Matt was baptized and married in the same church that the funeral was held. (Matt and Suzette live in the Dallas environs now.)

Despite this, Uncle Butch didn’t just tolerate his daughter’s relationship, he openly embraced Carrie and Katie as family.

My cousin Matt wrote the obituary. As usual, the obituary included the list of survivors, including “his daughter Suzette [redacted] and daughter-in-law Carrie [redacted]”.

Not only that, but the preacher that gave the service (who was otherwise, pretty much what I hate about some preachers) said the same thing a couple of times. And no one who knew anything about Uncle Butch could have possibly mistaken what he meant.

I’m proud to be related to these people.

Excellent. And very sorry for your loss.

That’s nice. I’m sorry for your loss but am glad that Uncle Butch loved and accepted all of his family.
