Sad stories about clothing that has disappeared on you

I have two articles of clothing whose disappearance is mysterious to me, because I liked these clothes and would have never chosen to discard them. One was a blue suede jacket, in the style of a denim jacket that looked really good on me. I owned this one from about 1976 through 1980 maybe. One day it was gone. I looked everywhere but could not find it.

The other was a blue short-sleeved shirt, with red and yellow stripes. This one I have some idea where it went, though I’m puzzled by the motivation–the material was some kind of knit and it retained sweat. In the summer of 1981 or 1982 or both, I was staying with my in-laws and I suspect my mother-in-law was doing laundry and disliked the way this shirt smelled, so instead of washing it she pitched it in the trash. I think I had two identical shirts (I really liked the way it looked) and I travelled with both of them, and both could not be found when I packed to go home. My MIL just gave me a blank look when I asked, but I never trusted her again.

I miss both of these articles of clothing a lot.

I lost the trousers of my wedding suit less than three months after the ceremony. I’m pretty sure it got lost in a Paris hotel during my honeymoon in December 2004. The problem is that, since I wear suits extremely seldom, I haven’t had a complete one since then. Whenever I need to dress up, I have to wear trousers that don’t match the jacket.

I also lost several items of clothing when my ex-wife and I separated. My moving out of the house was rather… rushed, and I forgot to check the dirty laundry basket, which contained a very nice and particularly classy white shirt.

I cannot locate a super-comfortable long-sleeve T-shirt in a shade of blue I rather liked. I’ve completely plowed out the closet recently, so it either snuck into a donation box (I wouldn’t have parted with that one intentionally) or it got damaged enough to hit the trash and I do not remember doing so.

I’ve had the opposite experience. One day I was looking for a shirt to wear and found one I did not know. I really liked it, so my questions were minimal. No idea where it came from.

When I’d have a favorite t-shirt I’d wear and wash and wear it over and over until it was ragged and holey. Now they seem to disappear just before they reach that point. I suspect Mrs, solost but have no proof.

The Committee has them.
How to get them back, I dont know.

Old tshirts make GREAT rags! They are soft and absorbent, and if they get really cruddy, they can be guiltlessly thrown away.

“Cheesecloth” has degenerated into something resembling fishing net. I don’t mess with it any more: I have tshirt rags that do the job beautifully.

Just sayin’. There may bea reason you can’t find your old, soft, comfy, stretched-out-of-shape, holes-in-the-pits tshirt.

I have a problem with socks: I lose one of a pair. AND THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES!

I lost a brand new long-sleeved t-shirt. I brought it home and washed it. I found it 6 months later, in a part of the basement it had no business being in. When I unload the dryer, all of the clothes are put in a clothes basket and taken upstairs to fold. So I have no idea how it ended up where it was.

I had a pair of dress pants hanging with all of my other dress pants. They were the only brown pair hanging among black and navy pants. I went to get them one day and they were gone. I methodically went through the entire closet one hanger at a time. I looked on the floor. They just weren’t there. Months later there they were hanging with the other dress pants.

Last week my husband was wearing a knitted winter hat (his favorite) - kind of beanie style. I saw it on his head. Later that day he asked me if I’d seen it anywhere. We’ve looked high and low for that hat. It’s just not there. I know it’s going to appear one day - hopefully before spring!

My grandma threw away my cutoff jean shorts. Really weird, because they weren’t short. They were fairly long (maybe around mid-thigh). I don’t why she thought they were inappropriate.

I got drunk on deck on a Princess Cruise while watching a bowl game on the Enoro-Tron. Woke up in my cabln sometime later minus my favorite black Henley. Never to be found again. Lots of trips to the Lost and Found and Laundry. No Dice. How far could it have gotten on a cruise ship?

Somebody is what Stole it!

Not sure if a wallet counts as clothing, but I know one of mine is somewhere between Cave Rock and Round Hill Pines on the bottom of Lake Tahoe. Small search area… it could happen…

My sock disappearance problems have mostly vanished since I stopped going to laundromats.

My Vietnam Era US Navy Veteran ball cap disappeared, possibly from my office at work. They’ve stopped advertising them now. But I have another that does not include “Vietnam Era”.

Back when I lived in an apartment building with shared laundry (just a big closet so no place to stay and babysit your laundry), and I “lost” a Ralph Lauren blouse and skirt. I got them at a deep discount, so I wasn’t out too much actual money, but I especially loved that skirt. I miss it to this day.
