BAGHDAD — As a fresh cache of Jack Chick tracts was found at yet another of Saddam Hussein’s palaces, it’s becoming clear just how important the pamphlets were to Hussein’s architecture of fear.
“Hussein admired Chick and saw him as a pioneer in using fear as a manipulative force,” says a CIA analyst studying the connection. “Saddam had a saying: ‘Give me one Chick booklet or ten rifles. They are equally effective.’”
