I’m surprised there is no pit thread on this already. Poor Saddam! Tortured by those dastardly Americans…and still has the marks on his body (though being a good muslim he won’t show them appearently) after 8 months!
I don’t know if anyone else is following the trial but I really thought it was a nice touch with the request for prayer in court yesterday…and then after it was refused (the bastards!) turning towards Mecca and praying anyway while looking pious.

Bush IS the suxxors, and Saddam’s rights ARE important. But neither of those is relevant to this. Saddam is a liar: he could show his scarred belly on national TV and I wouldn’t believe he’d been tortured. I see no reason at all to believe that he’s telling the truth.

Torturing Saddam Hussein is a very, very bad idea. Such a bad idea, that I can’t believe he’s been handled with anything other than kid gloves, as far as U.S oversight of his treatment is concerned.
I think it’s something that even with killing his sons, alleged torture, confinement and all, Saddam still is not one step closer to being proved guilty of or even liable for the death of Bonnie Bakley Blake. When will they realize they just don’t have a case and she was offed by one of those guys she blackmailed?

shudder Most definitely not. Saddam is definitely not my type. I’m quite happy that his muslim modesty precluded Saddam stripping right there in the courtroom to show us his marks. We can ALL be grateful in fact.

Yeah. Saddam sure piled on the pounds during his reign. Are there any attractive dictators out there at all? They seem to be good with mustaches, but not much else.
I’m astonished that anyone thinks this trial will be anything but theater from either side. The outcome is pre-ordained. All that is left is for each side to put on the best acting they possibly can. Check your indignation at the door, and enjoy the show!
Plus he’s got that scruffy, skid row thing going there (though admittedly he’s cleaned up a bit for the trial).
I can’t think of any dictators who are very attractive come to think of it…alive or dead. Lenin perhaps in an undead sort of way I suppose…if you leave aside the million plus dead of course. Some of them are worse than others looks wise though…imagine if Lil’ Kimmy decided to show us HIS corpulent ‘marks’ for instance. Or…shudder…Kadaffi (or how ever the hell he spells his name this week). Yikes! :eek:

Let me add you to the list of morons who feel the need to make some sort of pre-emptive rebuttal to an argument that no-one has yet made.
Also, as LHoD suggests, the fact that Saddam might be a lying, manipulating sack of shit doesn’t mean that he doesn’t deserve a fair trial, and also says nothing about Bush’s handling of the whole Iraq situation.
Thinking about Saddam I’m just as happy never knowing.
I’ve actually seen it in RL. If you haven’t had the ‘honor’ let me just say…it doesn’t get any less creepy when viewed from a few feet away than the pictures.
I hear they are thinking of finally burying the old boy. IIRC there is something of a debate going on about this topic anyway by our Russian comrades. I doubt they will though…its a pretty big tourist attraction, or at least it was last time I was out that way.

I do remember hearing that they’re discussing it in Russia; Putin may have floated it as a trial balloon. It’s interesting to me that it gets so much opposition.
Well, it’s like he’s innocent. Frankly, he could be 99.99999% innocent and they’d still have enough to lynch him with.

Strangely, in this photo of Saddam in his undies, that was leaked a few months ago, there doesn’t seem to be any signs of bruising on his body. You don’t suppose he’s making this stuff up, do you?
