Thats what it looked like to me.
Is this common, or did he just filter off the money that should have been spent on a bronze one ?

Are you talking about the one that was re-played being torn down all day yesterday? I did seem they had a bit of trouble getting it off the pedastal but there were 2 large pipes that were in each leg that made it more difficult than it seemed it should have been.I don’t think Saddam spared expense on his personal statues.
Yes, that’s the one.
Definately looked like it was made of heavy duty rubber to me. Specially the way it bounced when it was pulled over and ‘tore’ at the bottom.
Yeah - that’s so it bounces when it falls down…
Um, folks? Third World dictators with egos the size of Canada don’t pay to have enormous 40-foot-tall public statues of them made out of the same thing truck tires and condoms are made out of.
It was bronze, and yes, a huge heavy bronze object will bounce when it hits terra firma.
Also, a rubber statue, even a 40-foot-tall one, wouldn’t have been so heavy that the Iraqis couldn’t budge it with sledgehammers.
It was a joke silly!
