Salad in a burger - above or below the meat?

As the title says, when you’re building your burger and you’re putting in whatever salad makes you happy, does the salad items go on the bottom with the meat and hot items on top or does the meat and other items go first and then the salad?

I’m a meat on bottom person. My personal burger build goes like this:

Bottom bun
Sauce
Meat patty
cooked onion
cheese slice
bacon
fried egg
tomato
beetroot
lettuce
mayo
top bun.

How do you build your burger?

That sounds like the recipe that I remember from the local fish & chip shop in the 70s. Delicious!

You left out my option: it doesn’t really matter to me at all. My “cheese” goes on top though, since it will otherwise overpower the burger if it hits my tongue first. Same if I include (a tiny bit of) ketchup.

Fellow kiwi?

I agree with your order, although now that I don’t eat bread, I have mine in a bowl and go the opposite way.

My favorite burger is from In ‘N’ Out, and they put the salad on the bottom.

I favor salad on the top and cheese on the bottom. Your upper teeth get the crunch, while the cheesy goodness hits your tongue before the other ingredients.

When there’s salad in the burger, I remove it and eat it by itself. If, for whatever reason, it remains in the bun, it goes on top.

Mix mayo, mustard on the top bun. Lettuce, pickle, and then cheese goes directly on the patty. Thats how I make them.

I’ve had restaurants give me a burger with lettuce on the bottom. Seems up side down. I eat it anyhow.

IT doesn’t matter to me, but I voted on the bottom. (The only burger I usually get with the salad on it is an In N Out burger, and they put theirs on the bottom, so that’s what I thought of when thinking salad on a burger.)

I don’t do refined carbs, so the salad IS the bun on my veggie burger.

bottom bun
burger
cheese
onion (optional)
top bun

Traditional and customary Australian food as well… McDonalds have even taken it on - McOz Burger. They always put meat at bottom.

Anything similar in NZ?

I never knew anyone ate burgers without the fixin’s on top!

Behold the kiwiburger!

You forgot the bacon…

How in the world can you forget the bacon???

Nah, over the ditch on the mainland.

Both sides. Pickle and onion on the bottom side, cheese and tomato on the top side.

I put lettuce on top. But…I’m usually flipping my burger periodically while I eat it, so that the largest amount of bun is on the bottom at any given time.

Salad on bottom.

It just makes sense as a functional matter. You can construct the rest of the burger before/during cooking of the meat patty, so then when cooking is complete you simply pop the patty and fried onions on top of the otherwise complete burger and you’re done.

If I have to have salad on a burger, it belongs on the bottom. That way it helps keep the bottom bun from disintegrating.
