I cook out on a grill 4 days a week for kids at the camp where I work…just standard burgers, dog, chicken breast and beans.
On Sundays, I grill for the staff and volunteers, and do something special every week for them, rather than the standard fare.
This coming Sunday I am gonna do special order burgers and supply a bunch of toppings, they fix their plate with the toppings and bring them to me at the grill(sorta like a mongolian BBQ).
Want some ideas for toppings…
So far I have
Cheddar Cheese
Bleu Cheese
Green Olives
Jalapeno
Sauted Mushrooms
Sauted Onions
Raw onions
Guacamole
Bacon.
What toppings do you like?
It does have to be something several people would try,to cut down on waste.
What about some ham slices - kind of like the Old Roy Rogers Double-R burger (I think). And if you go for that, then also stock some horseradish (comes in a squeeze bottle, much like mustard - which you should also have). And then don’t forget plain ol’ lettuce and tomato.
Actually I think a ham - mustard - lettuce - tomato - horseradish (just a light smear) - burger sounds pretty darn good…
I just had a delicious burger with onion and garlic powder (added while cooking), a slice of American cheese (okay, okay, a Kraft single), some spicy pickle slices, and BBQ sauce. If you get any one of those things, get the spicy pickles. They’re awesome, and less obnoxious taste-wise than jalapenos.
It starts with a layer of Guacamole(almost as thick as the burger), spotted with Jalapeno, a couple slices of bacon, topped with a very thick chunk of cheddar.
Need some pepper jack to go with the guacamole, maybe some pico de gallo or other such salsa too.
I realize I’m probably alone one this one now, but I bet I won’t be if you actually try it…
Peanut Butter.
Seriously. Put it by itself between the patty and the bottom bun; it adds just a little extra mmm to the burger. Not advised for the Southwest style burgers(pep jack, guac, salsa, etc), but I’ll gladly put it on a traditional cheeseburger(cheddar, lettuce, tomato, etc) or a western(cheddar, bbq sauce, bacon, etc). Adams is the best peanut butter, ftr.
