Sales culture

Been in sales for a few months, and what I’ve noticied is the following traits in the environment;

Work hard play hard, drink in the afternoon, at night and in the morning and schoolyard behaviour no to mention constant shift changes. I’ve never wanted a 9-5 job more in my life.

Don’t mind it once in a while, but the expectation of having to go out drinking, having to talk to collegues who I’ve just met speak to you like you’re there best friends, can get extremely annoying.

What are you selling?

I have been around sales all my life and treat it as a responsible profession. I almost never drink at work :slight_smile:

Hanging out with other sales people is useless. If you are a hunter, hang out where the ducks are, not where the other hunters are.

I sell car insurance, I’m pretty good at it as well, not to mention it’s not cold calling, which makes it easier for us. Just the environment is stressful and annoying most of the time.

You one of those ‘solitary types’ at work?

When it’s lunch, I almost never hang out with my co-workers, half of it is because I don’t generally like talking about inane rubbish, the other half is that I have to get out of the building to have some time to myself (and keep my sanity)

Do you slick your hair back, wear a tie that’s just a touch too loud, and heap on the cologne? That’s how salesmen look around here, plus that slightly predatory look.

Be thankful you’re not in software sales.

What’s the difference between a software salesman and a used car salesman?

The used car salesman knows when he’s lying to you.
