I always buy salmon fish at the supermarket to cook and eat at home. Its either atlantic salmon or salmon steak.
I saw they have atlantic salmon portions on sale at the supermarket and its at a pretty big discount.

Whats the difference between these salmon and the other 2 types of salmon fish i buy? They say its portions so im confused what that mean. Are these the frozen type as the ones i buy are not frozen? Do they put some special sauce or it or something? The thing is i dont want any ingredients or stuff liek that into it b/c i would break out in my face a lot when putting any type of sauce etc.
Are these basically the same as buying regular salmon fish? Only reason why i ask is b/c its a pretty big discount and if its the same salmon fish basically, i would just buy it as oppose to the regular salmon i buy.
I took a look through the circular for sentimental reasons. I’ve not been to a Loblaws in years.
Anyway, the 8.99 salmon fillets on sale are just salmon fillets. Not sure where you’re finding other ingredients. Go to the store and ask the guy behind the fish counter for some salmon fillets. And see a dermatologist about the acne.
No, they are not the same as the other types of salmon that you buy. The majority of Atlantic salmon are raised in fish farms, not wild caught like the varieties of Pacific or Alaskan salmon that you pay a premium for.
Look for the country of origin on the label, you will probably see, Norway, Chile, British Columbia or the eastern Canadian provinces, all areas with heavy fish farming industries. Wild Atlantic salmon are endangered in the US and cannot be caught commercially in the wild.
Farmed Atlantic salmon are kind of docile and just sit in the pens like logs. That pretty pink color comes from astaxanthin or canthaxanthin added to the feed they eat. I was a manager in the fish feed industry for 30 years, our now defunct business specialized in salmon and trout feed. There is nothing wrong with Atlantic salmon particularly, I wouldn’t eat it, but you should know what you are buying, and you are buying a farm raised fish fed on fish-based feed with coloring added.
You get a certain image in your head when one thinks of salmon, beautiful, wild, energetic, healthy. That is not what the Atlantic salmon you buy in the grocery store are. If you live in an area that has a good fresh fish market, like Seattle or San Francisco, go there and ask for a fresh caught Atlantic salmon. They may not laugh at you to your face, but probably will.
