I would think that five years of experience working at a Salvation Army thrift store would be helpful when applying for another retail position, such as at Walmart, Target or a supermarket. So get out there and apply.
Seriously though, they could have gone with Genesis 25:30 or something. Lots of food related bible references to be had. Never miss an opportunity to go all Old Testament ‘the streets will flow with the blood of the nonbelievers!’, I guess.
So, Sitnam, are you saying these two statements are equivalent or are we just getting our Christian hate on?
I’m saying the mission statement of the SA and the motto don’t exactly match. They can calm the fuck down. The Boy Scouts have religious foundation and yet it’s motto is a fitting ‘Be Prepared’.
Not wrongfully, as it was in an ‘at will’ state. The other manager and I were called in on a Friday afternoon and handed a severance check, no reason given. As it turns out, the fucker had been plotting this move for some time, planning to hire a buddy of his to try to do both jobs (good fucking luck) for about $20K less than he was paying either of us. Made the bottom line (and him) look good, but fucked two good employees.
You were paying a mortgage and putting a kid through college while working at a thrift store???
My mind is blown!
Well, it helps if you boost your income by shoplifting.
And then tell contradicting stories about it.
The OP may have several other sources of money such as a assets that produce money, but not enough to cover all his expenses or their spouse may be the primary income-earner with the OP’s income being the “gravy” income that provides for the upgrades (like a better house of helping the kid pay for college).
You put a nickel in the drum, did you?
Me too! Damn, Chuck Conners was hot.
Not trying to pile on the OP, but could not a job at a thrift store be replaced in seconds? I mean, there is no shortage of minimum wage jobs. In fact, that is the problem with our economy, the minimum wage is not a living wage. But, i doubt the SA pays much more the MW for working in their stores.
So, is the OP really desperate for this job or just mad at them for firing him, because, for the record, firing him could be a legitimate anger producer. But, like Frank pointed out, he kinda knew why they did it, which then makes us question his original post that implied it was “out of the blue”. Now, the firing could still be wrong, but if what you are hypothesizing is true (he has assets to cover his other costs), should not the OP’s post have been:
“I was walked out of the SA today, after 5 years of service. They ESCORTED me out. They did it because some jerk I turned in for shoplifting made complaints about me and other employees. It was all bullspit and I am enraged they would believe that person over me, nonetheless escort ME out. Now, I have a kid in college and new mortgage and I was using this job to supplement an already existing asset base and this is incredibly inconvenient. I mean, I could get a new job at McDonalds or some other minimum wage crap place, but I LIKED this job. This sucks and I think it is wrong to fire me without due process.”
Yes, because we all write things in the perfect way when we’re angry.
They didn’t tell him why they did it before they did it. He found out later. It’s not hard to understand.
Frank came in and called the guy a liar, because he apparently believes in the “just world fallacy.” He deliberately antagonized him. Then, rather than apologize, he gave an “I told you so.” Frank is a creep, and it’s why I have him on ignore.
And would you ever tell someoen who was fired that they should just buck up and go tomorrow to McDonald’s? And what makes you think McDonald’s doesn’t have a waiting list for hires, and would have a full time position open?
Every time I see a poster declare that I am on their ignore list and I think about my opinion of that poster, the more I am convinced that I am doing *something[/] right.
Not coding, however.
There is something erotic going on here but I can’t quite put my finger on it. …
That JAW!! swoon
Not necessarily, in many places in the country there is intense competition for even minimum wage jobs, especially ones with a convenient commute (commute that doesn’t eat up most of the wages). If the OP had a reasonably pleasant working situation. Co-workers he got along with who pulled their weigh and a cheap commute, he has every right to be mad as hell because the company preferred to believe the potential shoplifter over the employee with 5 years experience. Sound like they were looking for reasons to get rid of employees with experience (and hence slightly higher hourly wages). A lot places in the minimum wage world do this.
If the OP is making minimum wage, then how could he be replaced by a … oh … nevermind …
around here most of the thrift shops are ran by volunteers and people who pay them to let them do community service …
