I worked at the Store but not For the store. The manager had no say in my daily activities. My direct supervisor was the head of marketing and public relations in this region. I spoke with him daily but saw him face to face only a few times in five years.

Salvo Stores are ubiquitous in Australia, with coverage across suburbia and most decent sized regional towns. Where once they were staffed by volunteers, the brand has taken off you might say, and now paid-employees are behind the counters and in the sorting sections. It’s my understanding they have professional valuers to go through donated items to sort the trash (that they sell in their stores) from the treasures (that are sent to auction houses and other third party buyers).
The Salvos make BIG BUCKS from their merchandising. I have no clue as to their wage-rates, but would expect they pay their floor-staff a relative pittance, and their managers a more reasonable rate. Of course, their valuers would attract a decent remuneration as well.

Regardless of your role, you have my sympathies mate. Being chucked from a job is one thing, being chucked when you don’t really understand WHY is another kettle of fish.
Is it worth submitting an appeal to the higher ups? You’ve been in your job for 5 yrs now so it’s not like you’re an incompetent twit. Maybe??

On the contrary. In “Right to Work” States, this is standard practice.
Give it a break, Frank. That IS what happened. I still don’t have a solid answer as to why I was terminated.
Check your mortgage–it may have insurance built-in.
