sam "mayday" malone

OK, a while ago (it may have been years ago), I distinctly remember reading an article, perhaps in Sports Illustrated, which was a sort of spoof. It chronicled the fictional career of Red Sox pitcher Sam “Mayday” Malone (from the TV show “Cheers,” of course), treating him as if he were a real player. It gave his lifetime stats and everything.

To make a long story short, I have a friend who has bet me that such an article never existed. I ** know ** I am not imagining this; I just can’t remember where to find it. I’ve tried Google searches with “Sam Malone Statistics” and “Mayday Malone Statistics,” among others, all with no luck.

Does anyone recall this at all? Any idea how to help me win the bet? Thanks.

Scroll down to “Mayday Malone”. They make a mention of such an article in the blurb about him.

I might as well post the info from the page here, no use in making you navigate through the whole thing.

Wow, what a quick response. I will go to the library and get that, and I will win the bet.

I can’t believe it’s been ten years. I guess that makes sense, though, as the show’s already been off the air ten years.

Thanks!
