Maybe EastUmpqua has more of a sense of ironic self-realization than we realize. This article on the Umpqua tribe prominently mentions upper and lower Umpqua, but nothing about the eastern contingent. Maybe his SDMB presence can put his backwoods kindred on the map.
I’m hoping we can get back to making fun of Sam Stone and his ridiculous statement that there’s no risk from right wing political violence. I also like how he implicitly links seditious right-wing militias to Republicans – “this is all theater to smear Republicans”.
The FBI: Racist, seditious, right-wing militias are the biggest threat to this country right now.
Republicans and their supporters: Hey, we resemble that remark!
The issue is that the Republicans are working from a philosophy of disproportionate response. This is reflected in their actual motto, - “if you hit us, we’ll hit you back ten times harder. This is an abusive dynamic, and any individual that buys into it is engaging in psychological abuse.
You accuse one of our politicians of corruption, and we’ll accuse ten of yours of pedophilia and child murder. You try to impeach our President, rightfully or not, and we will try to overthrow the election you won by overwhelming and violent force, even if we have to assault and kill cops.
Every single person that downplays this or tries to shift the blame is a shitty excuse for a human being. They’re corrupt. If they aren’t beating their wives and kids yet, they will be soon. Because shitty people that abuse other people because their political doctrine tells them they are right have abandoned their morals. And once your morals are abandoned, you’ll have no trouble beating your wife and stealing from your neighbors. You’ll confuse things like civics and sportsmanship with weakness. You’ll make treating other people like shit your life philosophy.
You’ll have no problem telling your kids that if they lose the big game, they should ambush the members of the other team, beat them up and steal their trophy (which is the message every child of Trump supporters took away from the 2020 election).
TL:DR - Republicans are shitty amoral people that believe in violence.
Holy shit his posts in the cultural grievance thread are delusional. Anyone who worries about violence from Antifa is an idiot. Anyone who denies the real threat to democracy that right wingers posed on Jan 6 as well as before and after is an asshole.
I have always thought it weird how little I see him in actual Canadian politics threads, but he wouldn’t be the only person I know who is more concerned with politics in another country than in his own.
Still, that most recent argument is really, really bad. He’s starting to sound like he regurgitates the stuff he sees on Facebook, or even has been looking into some Q-lite sources.
Dang. And being in complete denial of the costs of climate change seems almost wholesome in comparison. He’s completely delusional on on that subject, but nevertheless that’s among his least whack-a-doodle positions. Those Albertan petroleum fumes really do a number on the residents.
