Thankfully, Biden doesn’t appear to make decisions based on daily tracking polls. That he’s gone down a few points (based on the 538 average) doesn’t tell us much at all at this point in his presidency.
This continues to be an incredibly dishonest criticism. It imagines a world in which twenty years of total failure and massive waste could be exited smoothly. That’s a Trumpian fantasy. In the real world, years of failure are always going to have chaotic reverberations afterwards. And even in this world, the exit had very low casualties and met almost every goal. It’s a shame we didn’t get absolutely everyone at wanted out, but that was also a fantasy. 100% success after decades of failure is a pipe dream. It went amazingly well considering the circumstances.
The border is also a disaster, and the flood of immigrants are now spreading Covid through the south. Biden lied again when he said the Haitians under that bridge in Del Rio were going to be sent back to Haiti. Today Mayorkas testified that 12,000 of them were released into the United States with no Covid testing, but they estimated about 20% of them were sick.
Biden’s economic program is failing, which is a good thing because adding 4.7 trillion dollars of printed money into an inflating economy is lunacy, and adding that much demand for workers and raw materials at a time of both worker and material shortages is beyond insane.
I’m not the outlier here. Bden’s approval rating among independents has dropped from 61% to 37%. He’s close to losing Hispanics, and Black approval has dropped 12%. The only people hanging on and saying he’s doing a good job are Democratic parisans, but even his support among registered Democrats is falling.
What would you consider to be a Biden success, other than Afghanistan?
Biden’s COVID policy is about as good as it could possibly be. The mandate is a huge success, with skyrocketing vaccination rates in the military and affected industries. His immigration policy is far from perfect but still orders of magnitude better than Trump. He ended the purposeful child separation policy and has reunited hundreds of families. The supposed “crisis” at the border is the same nonsense we always see - when a Democrat is in office, it’s a crisis, no matter what’s actually happening. Thousands of desperate, unarmed poor people aren’t a threat to anyone, certainly not to the USA. Afghanistan is a historic success and the COVID economic recovery bill has been very impactful. I was a big Biden critic before and during the primary, and he was almost my least favorite choice, but he’s massively exceeded my wildest hopes.
If it’s a fantasy, it’s one his military advisors shared. They emphatically did not agree with how the withdrawal was done, and testified that a small retaining force of 2500-4500 could have kept Bagram going, provided air support for the Afghans and prevented the fall of Kabul. That size of force is easy to manage, and there are numerous countries where thr U.S. has that kind of presence. They were overruled by Biden.
I’m so old I can remember when this board excoriated Presidents who rejected the advice of their generals.
Yes! These generals lied (or otherwise shared fantastical ideas about what was actually happening) for years. If that’s not obvious to you by now, then your judgment on these matters is no better than Donald Rumsfeld in the early aughts.
They wanted to stay forever, as you apparently are also advocating. Thank God Biden rejected this harmful advice.
Are we sure he isn’t one?
Holy shit!!! 2,400 new COVID cases in the US!!! Concentrated in Texas!!! Oh my god, this is a historic failure.
No, wait a minute, Texas is averaging 11,000 new COVID cases per day. OK, cancel the alarm.
No, don’t cancel the alarm. I’m worried that those immigrants might catch Covid from infected Texans.
Looks like the plan was a success!
Ok. Odd then that you would mention the total disapproval since it doesn’t factor in here.
Strong disapproval vs. strong approval seems like an incredibly bad metric in the presence of Republicans, anyway.
Hey, they knew the risk.
@Sam_Stone, this stuff about infected hordes of immigrants crossing the southern US border is really beneath you. I get why a Canadian would be interested in US economic policy, tax policy, environmental policy, even our safety nets, because all of that may have an effect on Canada. I have no idea at all why would would give a flying fuck about our immigration policy, except as it might regard Canadians. You’re just way too invested in American right-wing media.
That’s from one group under a bridge. That’s not the sum total of untested immigrants that have come into the US.
200,000 just in July. And those are encounters, and doesn’t include the people that got through without encountering border patrol.
If 20% of those are sick, that’s 40,000 extra Covid cases. And the numbers are growing.
Damn, we’re gonna run out of Ivermectin!
Can’t get conservatives to give even the slightest fuck about Covid . . . until it can be used as a weapon against people of a certain color. Funny that.
Hahaha! Nice.
Who are you talking about? Me? My family was fully vaxxed the second we could. And we follow all masking and distancing protocols.
I think it’s hilarious that you’re taking a shot at Conservatives for not taking Covid seriously while you hand-wave away hundreds of thousands of untested and unvaxxed people streaming into the country every month. And because they are illegal, I doubt they’ll be showing up to get a vaccine.
And they aren’t staying in Texas. The Biden admijistration has been transporting them all around the country.
Alberta and Saskatchewan, both with Conservative governments, currently top the list of provinces in Canada for Covid cases. And both suck at vaccinations.
YOU may be vaccinated, but a whole shit-load of your conservative brethren are dyed in the wool anti-vaxxers and wing-nuts. And you don’t even have any bad immigrants to blame in Alberta.
I keep forgetting that you just LARP as an American conservative.
Very convenient for you when the American ideology you embrace goes all shit for brains, you get to pull your Canadian card out and say ‘What do those people have to do with me eh?’.
I’m not ‘embracing’ anything other than my own political beliefs. But it’s nice to kmow that you feel someone who is roughly on one side has to answer for every crazy thing done on that side. I’ll make list of things you can vouch for.
