Samantha Bee's Full Frontal: No more :(

Figuring since I kicked things off, here, might as well wrap it up too.

TBS: “A difficult, business-based decision”. okee dokee.
Hoping she finds some other platform and start shit-kicking again.

I would be shocked if Sam Bee didn’t have any number of opportunities to make her voice heard. At minimum, she could do a podcast. Maybe a stand up special? We haven’t heard the last of her.

She does do a podcast (Full Release) but I don’t know how tied to the TBS system it is, if it’ll continue independently or is now gone too.

This is part of the bloodbath that is the new WB CEO eliminating everything on the roster that isn’t made by or that doesn’t cater to white men.

That may be part of the reason. There’s also the fact that when Discovery acquired Warner Bros, they also acquired something like $55 billion in debt and they’ve said they’re looking for $3 billion in immediate savings. So they’ve been brutal in cancelling stuff.

Perhaps they are eliminating the shows with low ratings.

Well, she lasted longer than the other female hosts (Michelle Wolf, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler). So there’s that I guess.

Wow - it’s been around for two years but only now TIL.
Thanks!

You forgot Amber Ruffin and Lily Singh

Wait, you mean the Amber Ruffin Show is possibly on the block? I didn’t especially like her show, but I like her.

If you remember Gale Storm and “My Little Margie”, you might discover that Amber is like her reincarnation. Ggggggg.

This article suggests that Ruffin’s show still hasnt even finished it’s full Season 2 run, so I don’t think they’re on the chopping block yet.

Strange that an article on the shakeup in late night comedy wouldn’t even mention that “Gutfeld!” is beating them all except Colbert, and beats Colbert as well from time to time. It’s also beating them in the 25-54 demo, which seems interesting given that the network its on features ads for dentures, reverse mortgages and gold.

The fact that a strange show on cable is beating The Tonight Show handily seems like news to me.

No, it’s not strange at all. That show has literally nothing to do with the shakeup they are talking about, which is about various shows ending and the new opportunities that arise from such.

That said, I am curious. Do those numbers include online viewing? Because if so, that could be impressive. If not, then I’d say it means little, as it seems highly likely to me that conservatives are more likely to still be watching regular TV. And it very much seems that the demographic you state tends to watch Late Night shows online–something that is in the article.

I’m just dubious that there would be this huge contender and yet I would have never heard of it. I tend to read a lot of those articles that tell you how Late Night comedians comment on things, and you’d think it would come up. The media loves that sort of competition, pitching it between all the others.

And, yes, the ads make me wonder, too. Why would they not be able to pull better ads than that if they were truly winning in those demos?

My suspicion is that many advertisers don’t want to be on Fox News Channel, regardless of the demographics of that show’s viewers.

Well, it’s on Fox News, so you probably don’t read the kind of stuff that would mention it I suppose. But there is lots of commentary about it in industry-related news:

He’s beating The Tonight Show by a million viewers. And he’s doing it on cable while the competitors are available OTA.

My take on it is that the rest of the late-night field has become somewhat boring and esrablishment with a Democrat in the White House, and Gutfeld is subversive, which is the heart of comedy. I’ve seen clips of the show - it’s very uneven, sometimes cringe-worthy, but other times it’s pretty entertaining. I find other late-night shows increasingly tedious and unfunny. But I’m sure it depends on which ox you prefer being gored.

It helps him that he’s the only ‘conservative’ show, whereas the liberal audience gets split among a whole bunch of contenders. Samantha Bee probably succumbed to that. I always thought she was funny on The Daily Show, but I never did see her streaming show.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Samantha Bee clip ever recommended to me on YouTube. However Colbert, Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, and Seth Meyers clips are constantly recommending to me on YouTube.

…that didn’t feature Trump in some manner.

Though he’s a natural subject to lampoon, it got tiresome for me quickly.

I’m not seeing, at all, more Trump content in her work than any other of her ilk. (UGH I HATE SAYING THAT WORD!!! “ILK”!) (AAAAAAAAAH!).
Looks like our recollections differ, because I remember her doing actually more (with the exception of Oliver) investigative pieces on various social and political issues.
