Samclem, you're wrong

Nope. I didn’t manually enter jack shit down below. If you don’t want guests to have sigs in their profile, then you should remove it as a permission from the guest usergroup and not suddenly one day jump on a newbie when you yourself can be shown to have not been enforcing this rule until now.

I didn’t manually enter anything. This is pretty laughable.

The Newbie in question posted a link in his signature. That is against the rules. I was wrong to tell him that guests couldn’t post signatures.

I don’t think I’m incorrect about guests not being allowed to have automatic signatures enabled. I don’t think that the Board Administration has done anything to remove it as a permission from the guest user group. I think that’s the crux of the issue here.

As I said, I’ll let you know what the decision of the admins of the Board is when I can.

::sigh::

Copy down your signature. If the Administration of the Board decided to enable some switch that turns off automatic signatures in profiles for guests, then that signature won’t be there anymore. I don’t even know if such a switch exists. I’m just suggesting a prudent procedure.

Ed Zotti, in the linked thread above, turned off signatures for all non-paying members. Oakminster complained that he lost his signature and didn’t have it written down anywhere. I’m just trying to give a head’s up here.

From the dates of the threads referenced above it seems like this idea may have been kicked around at one time, along with things like post counts and locations display being disabled for guests in an effort to generate revenue by offering such perks to paying members only.

The idea about signatures was apparently shelved however, since the administrator settings of the board still allow guests to create signatures in their profiles. One would think if this was a board policy it would be a lot easier to disable guest signatures than leave them enabled and try to mod each poster individually by checking their profiles.

In this age of userscripts and such, minor board features like these are insignificant anyway. Trying to sell them as member benefits is kind of silly.

That said, the policy about post counts and locations remains. It is set up in such a way that paying members can’t see that information about guests, but guests can see it about paying members… which is kind of silly too. So maybe it is a policy but someone just forgot to turn off the switch that allows guest signatures.

I don’t really care about signatures. I almost never use mine and I often leave sig display off so other people having them is irrelevant to me. What I would like you to address is why you specifically have suddenly got an itch about this when you didn’t care before.

If you wanted to really make a difference, ban sign offs. That would excite me.

So you don’t know if the switch **Ed Zotti **used actually exists?

And that threat you made about deleting my signature wasn’t really a threat. You were just being helpful. Right.

I can’t be the only one here wondering what the hell this has to do with moderators favouring liberals.

Regardless of whether it has been disabled in the User CP, the rule is very plain: guests are not allowed to have signatures set up in their profile. You’re a guest. Connect the dots.

Personally, I make a copy of everything before I delete it.

FiGHT, FiGHT!!

Wow.

No, what he’s saying is that the admins might now enforce the policy Ed mentioned in the post linked to, and if so, all guests will lose any signatures in their profile. Last time that happened guests lost the text of their sigs, so back up now just in case.

Do you want to remind the mods to give the class homework, too?

Although, I like the idea of a breaking bad samclem taking out signatures…

Hello, My name Is Inigo Montoya, you killed my signature, prepare to die :stuck_out_tongue:

That would make a great sig.

Shodan sends his regards!” <garotte>

I can’t decide what’s making me laugh more: samclem responding to a guest with an automatic signature by saying that guests are unable to have automatic signatures, or Oakminster pulling a Yosemite Sam routine (“is that a… is that a threat! Why you… I never… ooooOOOOOOH!!!”).

Why choose?

You need to get a grip. Good gods.

Except he changed his sign-on.
