Trump told a “sir story” tonight and it involved Melania calling him “sir”. Yeah, that happened.
My favorite was a hispanic woman that said…
We were having quality family time “sighting in guns” at a picnic and were attacked by an illegal.
Has anyone thought to ask, what is the purpose of these rallies? If it’s to boost other Republicans in the mid-terms, how does that work since the Orange One’s own popularity rating is so low that many want nothing to do with him? ISTM that it’s mostly about Trump preening in front of adoring cultists to keep feeding his boundless narcissism.
Back in the '80s we answered a crowd extra call for a film being shot in San Jose. The elevator pitch would have been Karate Kid goes to college and we were there for one of the final scenes where the bad guy(s) were defeated at a tournament. It was filmed in the old gymnasium – only one level – but unfortunately ewer people answered the call than they would have liked.
The assistant director asked us to sit scrunched together so the camera would see what looked like a full crowd then when the reverse shot was being set up we got up and trooped over to the opposite side to sit tight again.
100% this. He loves doing rallies, being the center of attention, and getting applause. The fact that it’s not a particularly sound strategy for other candidates’ re-election chances doesn’t matter to him.
And, I doubt he is willing to believe the idea that he is actually unpopular, and that his presence does not help the GOP.
In the Republican mindset, people should be falling all over themselves for the princely sum of $100.
Yeah, he’s said “pretend I’m on the ballot”, because he believes his presence and endorsement is golden for Repub candidates. Or, maybe he doesn’t really care whether he’s helping or hurting the candidates, and he just does it for the love of bloviating. It’s hard to tell what he really, really believes in the dark recesses of his malignant mind.
Here’s a news article about the rally that seems a good fit in this thread:
Here’s the San Antonio paper write-up this morning. Oddly, the article does not give an estimated crowd size.

Did the guy ask you to change clothes as you ran over to the other side so you would look like different people?
EDIT: Was off-topic, will consider starting another thread later
Did the guy ask you to change clothes as you ran over to the other side so you would look like different people?
“It wasn’t that kind of movie, kid.”
They didn’t ask for a clothing change in the call. Either, like I said, fewer people responded than they had hoped or they didn’t care. I wore a red tee shirt in hopes of spotting myself.
Speaking of my first comment, when we arrived the crew was busy setting things up and after about twenty minutes a group of actors showed up and started stretching. Except for the token black guy they were almost all blondes and were wearing red gis with an embroidered tiger’s head. “Those are the good guys,” I said. A couple minutes later another group was stretching, all in black gis with a death’s head and wearing greased back hair. “And those are the bad guys.”
The wife of one of the “bad guys” was in the crowd with their infant son and when he wasn’t needed he’d come over to dandle the kid on his knee. It was a visual juxtaposition.
There’s no business like show business.
