I can’t believe I didn’t think to start this thread a few weeks ago, but Santo Rugger and friends are in town for the international rugby tournament and would love to meet some San Diego Dopers for breakfast and/or dinner tomorrow (Sunday). We’re open to suggestions as to where to go; I’m thinking Original Pancake House for breakfast (I know it’s not local, but I don’t know of any really good local breakfast places–well, Milano Coffee on Roi San Diego Dr & Qualcomm Way is good for somewhat lighter coffeehouse fare), and, well, I don’t know what for dinner yet. (Although if we decide to get a little smashed, I vote for the Whistle Stop for post-dinner drinks.) We’re quite open to suggestions. Santo Rugger and crew are staying in the Normal Heights area, so proximity to that helps.
Sorry for not saying anything in advance. For some reason the thought didn’t even occur to me to organize a Dopefest around this until Santo Rugger called me a few hours ago. :smack:
I haven’t heard anything from Santo Rugger yet, so I assume he’s merrily screaming his lungs out at Petco Park right now and it will be dinner tonight. More’n likely a close friend of mine will be coming as well. More news as it comes.
Update: The Rugby Appreciation Club wants to paint the town red at around 7 or 8, and they’d like for us to meet them somewhere downtown. I’ve made some suggestions and Santo Rugger will call me later tonight when they’ve made their decision. In the meantime, any local Dopers who would like to participate would be advised to send me a PM leaving me their number so I can update them (or just send me a PM and I’ll reply with my number, and you can call for updates–whichever you like).
I had a close friend in high school who worked there. I picked her up and dropped her off there a few times, but for some reason I never went. Maybe I’ll go get some huevos rancheros there one of these mornings.
OK, another update: Santo Rugger’s crew is tuckered out and wants to go home, but he’s still up for dinner and drinks at any time. I’m down for whenever, so anyone who said they would join us for dinner, check in when you can and let us know what’s good for you.
Myself, Santo Rugger and my friend will be at Tivoli Bar & Grill at 505 6th Ave between Island and Market. I’ve PMed most of you who are in San Diego and you have my number, so call me if you can make it, or just show up and look for us (hopefully we won’t have hopped somewhere else!). Don’t worry, I don’t think any of us are going to get real sloppy, since my friend and I both have to be up in the morning.
