Your reaction shows that you have a serious problem with young brown women speaking out and saying things that you disagree with.
Because that’s all she did – speak out her opinion. And you shit on her personally for it.

Don’t pull this race card garbage. My beef with Ocasio-Cortez is her trying to show up Sen. Tammy Duckworth. Sen. Duckworth is also a woman, also a person of color, and I voted and volunteered for her.
Don’t shit on young brown women with personal attacks like “narcissist” just for speaking out (speaking out and disagreeing is not “trying to show up” Duckworth). You should be ecstatic that young progressives are excited, especially young Hispanic progressives, which have historically turned out at relatively low rates, not shitting on them for having some different ideas about political strategy.
Jesus. This isn’t hard. Young people like OC are the future of the party. Why are you shitting on her for nothing more than speaking out? Don’t you want young progressives, especially young brown progressives, to be excited to come out and vote, and even run for office? If you shit on them with personal attacks for doing nothing more than speaking their opinion about political strategy, then they’re less likely to do so, and you’re hurting the future of the Democratic party.
Yeah, that’s some rotten verbiage, dalej42. Really fucking rotten. I’m sure you see it as defending the glorious party from insurgents.
You know what this sounds a lot like, right? :dubious:
The bolded part is all you, dale. All you. Not her, not us, not anyone else but you. Because no one else sees it, and we certainly don’t see it in your rantings which began 5 days before the tweet you’re now citing as the reason for your rantings.
See dalej42 here’s the thing. Quite a few of us also disagree with Ocasio-Cortez’s position and assessment, and completely agree with Duckworth. But none of the rest of us fault her for having that opinion or for expressing it. It is not narcissism to use whatever soapbox you happen to have for the minute to promote the positions you endorse.
Demonstrating that a young person can become involved and right away have a voice on the national stage … that’s good whether or not I agree with what she is saying.
I think my problem is that how she’s considered a genius for winning her primary and then starts claiming that because Bernie won the Kansas caucus that’s proof that her type of message will play nationally.
Who’s said she’s a genius? She busted her ass and had a message that resonated. That’s what people are talking about. And fuck yeah, she’s going to talk about how her message can and does resonate nationally. That’s what politicians do. Some people agree with her message, some people don’t. But seriously, you’re off-base here, and it’s making you look terrible. You’re the only person who thinks she needs to shut up with her message and that she’s somehow out of line because she’s now got a bigger soap box and people are actually listening to her.
This isn’t very cool. You hang around Elections enough to know dalej42 would be saying this type of stuff no matter the sex or ethnicity of the Sandinista. I disagree with his point but you, here, are disagreeing with his right to criticize “young brown women”.
Who said anything like this? Why not just back off the personal attacks, and just say “I disagree with her on strategy but I hope more young progressives run for office and speak out like her”.
He has the right to call anyone anything he wants. He has the right to use racial slurs, if he wants. And I have the right to criticize him for what he says.
I’m saying the Democrats need to be better, and need to make special effort to ensure that people of color are encouraged to speak out. When people try to shut down young brown people, that’s a special problem that especially needs to be addressed.
If it quacks, it may not be a duck, but that’s the percentage bet. … Or is it just educated bartenders you assume are unintelligent?
Unfortunately, it looks like she’s letting the success go to her head and is quickly descending into Bernie level narcissism.
Saying “clear advocacy for working class Americans isn’t just for the Bronx” is ‘Bernie level narcissism’?
If pro-people policies are out, what, in your opinion, is the best rallying call for the Democrats? Perhaps
“We hate people too, but not quite as much as Trump”
?

Yeah, I don’t think this is about sex or ethnicity. She committed the unforgivable sin of supporting Sanders. Burn the deplorable witch!

++. I think “free college education for all Americans” would be a vast over-reach right now. But still Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has me more enthused and optimistic about America’s future than I’ve been in a long while.
Yeah, I don’t think this is about sex or ethnicity.
It may not be in his mind, but trying to shut down young brown folks is a special problem Democrats should especially avoid.

Treating brown people with kid gloves is something Democrats, and all of us, should avoid. Do you really think the objection would be any different if this had been a white male who won that primary and said/did the same things?

It very well might have been. Lots of decent folks still have unconscious biases.
And I’m not interested in kid gloves. If brown people were only shit on as often as white people, I’d be ecstatic.
It is literally her job to go in and start telling people on Day 1 that they’re doing it wrong. That’s what she was hired to do.

Perhaps some more humility on your part to detect those biases in the wrings of anonymous message board posters is in order. The poster in question has a large, documented hatred of all things Bernie. If he also has a history of disdain for brown people, then you could perhaps make a case. Lacking the latter, there is no need to speculate beyond the former.

I don’t really care about the motives. I’ll answer questions because I’m asked, but I’m criticizing the language he’s using, no matter the motivation. Democrats shouldn’t be trying to shut down young brown progressives just because they advocate a political strategy they disagree with. And they especially shouldn’t be using personal attacks to do so.

Again, a problem you didn’t have when you first posted because she hadn’t done those things yet. Get a grip, dude.
