She’s touring Australia, but has gone into hospital with bronchial pneumonia. We wish her a complete recovery and good health.
Is she well known outside the UK and Australia?
I know her from the Great British Bake Off. I’m sorry to hear she’s ill and wish her a speedy recovery. I enjoyed her on the show and hated when she left.
American here and I’ve known her since Whose Line Is It Anyway? was on Comedy Central, years before Drew Carey’s version. The version with Clive Anderson.
Edit: Also QI and many panel shows, obviously. I heard she did Bake-off, but I didn’t watch it.

I was relieved when she left The Great British Bake Off, as I felt she was a bad fit for it. But i wish her well, and hope she recovers quickly and completely.

Same here. And I just was watching a 2021 show where she talked about how much she loved touring in Australia.
With no disrespect to the woman, this American has never heard of her.
I do read The Economist every week and have considerable interest in international relations / foreign affairs, so I’m not the typical insular US-centric-only American. But I’m also not much for watching TV.
Yes, I know her from things I watch on YouTube, like QI and a few appearances on other comedy panel shows. I saw her on a show called Dave, which is kind of a talk show, where she related how her British accent was originally “put on” so that she would fit in. Born in Denmark, her family moved to the US where she lived for several years, and so spoke English with an American accent. Then she moved to the UK (I think as an older teen, not sure, might have been for University) where she felt out of step so immediately adopted a British accent, and apparently made it work. As a panel show comedian, she is quick and bright and pretty funny, and seems also like a real person rather than a manufactured persona. Hoping for a quick and thorough recovery for her.
She was a teenager when she moved to britain to attend boarding school. She was also in NASA Mission Control when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and held the hand of Armstrong’s secretary.
I’ll add my best wishes. I know her from the Baking Show and QI and she’s become one of my favorite people to watch.
I know her from QI, and was peripherally aware of some of her other work, like the political stuff, but 95% QI.
Never heard of her. But I haven’t watched GBBO since Mary Berry left. Was that when she was on? Anyway, sending her good wishes for a complete recovery.

I don’t think the SDMB is a good cross section of US society. I’d wager Ms. Toksvig is not well known in the U.S, regardless of how you define “well known.”

Another American, and I know her from QI, as well as a handful of panel quiz shows. As a matter of fact, just last night I was watching The Big Fat Quiz Of Everything from 2019, when she was paired with Joe Lycett, and they were a hoot. I hope she recovers fully - like Stephen Fry and Dara Ó Briain, she’s another in the tradition of comedians as public intellectuals.
My friend’s PLEX server has a lot of UK shows, including QI. She took over as host from Stephen Fry a few years ago.
When she was a panelist, Trevor Noah also guested as a panelist, and he spoke Xhosa, the clicky tongue. She said “you don’t know me well, but I’m on the turn, I’m telling you.”
Well, she wasn’t a judge like Mary. I Believe Mary was replaced by Pru as a judge. Sandi was a co-host (?) with Noel. I’m not sure if they are considered a host or what.
She was a presenter, or more specifically, a co-presenter on Bake-off.
