Sandra Bland video

She was informed why she was arrested on Saturday at 1:30 am, during the bail hearing that set her bail at $5,000. I would venture a guess that she also knew it before that time, as well.

So now it comes out that Texas has to do a new Autopsy of Bland because the first autopsy was bad.

Something stinks to high heavens.

By the way, just a quick shoutout to “witnesses”:

“Mosley has talked to witnesses who say an officer dragged Bland out of the car’s window — something authorities dispute.”

What she SHOULD have done is gotten out of the car when he told her too. Of course, before that, she should have not argued with him when he was citing her in the first place…she should have taken the ticket and if she didn’t agree with it gone to traffic court. Why is that so tough? I mean, it’s what I do when I get pulled over. There are thousands (probably 10’s of thousand or even 100’s of thousands) of traffic stops by cops every day. Most, even those involving blacks or hispanics don’t escalate into this sort of ridiculous confrontation that was totally unnecessary. Was the cop right? No idea, but he seems to have been a dick once he got his back up. But the driver was kind of being a bitch as well and got his freaking back up, which, in my own humble experience is always the wrong thing to do with cops. Or am I missing some nuance in all of this? Because just looking over the transcript that 'luci helpfully provided it seems to me that both parties in this cluster fuck were being completely stupid and unnecessarily hostile and both were trying to see which one could piss the other off more in a sort of escalating one ups-man-ship game of chicken. News flash…the guy with the badge and the gun is going to win that in the end (for all the good it’s going to do him, since his own career is probably on hold at the least, and maybe over depending on how this plays out).

But there is a requirement that there must be a reason for the arrest, no?

You ought to know you’re being arrested too? So you should be informed of the arrest?

If I act like you’re arrested and you don’t know it, I need to make it clear no? Like before I assault, batter, break and enter, threaten with violence? (She thought she was not under arrest and told him. Must he answer that she is?)

Or maybe: If I’m a cop you must assume you are arrested as soon as I assault you, because I am a cop?

A cop can order you to do something and if you don’t comply within (5 seconds) may assault and batter you?

Who determines the reasonable amount of time required to process such a police request in your mind before it becomes a violent confrontation?

Who was the Peace keeper in this situation?

Who here is shocked that the cop flatout lied to his boss about his actions towards Bland?

But me oh my, his own false claims suggest he sees the wrongness in ordering someone of their car without articulating why. Otherwise, why would he lie about it? Isn’t that evidence of a guilty mindset? It just almost creates the impression that enforcing the law had nothing to do with his behavior that day and he was afraid someone would see this. And if we accept this possibility, as unlikely as it might be, then perhaps we should consider that maybe, just maybe, the late Sandra Bland had good reason to fear harm would come to her if she stepped outside her vehicle, which is why her immediate reaction wasn’t “yessuh” when he ordered her to do so.

And yet Bricker, yet again, is hung up on what consistitues a legal order or not. God Jesus help us all.

Deflect much?

He treated her brutally, and instigated and escalated the situation beyond all reason for a cop. The standards for behaviour are different for these two actors. One is a citizen, who has a right to be depressed, anxious, politically sensitive, or any number of other things. He’s on the job. It’s clear it wouldn’t have happened to a caucasian. I’m offended as an American.

Attorney for the Bland family disclosed that a few minutes ago on MSNBC. The family had taken the body back to Chicago, but now has to return it to Texas for a 2nd autopsy.

Are you sure this wouldn’t happen to a Caucasian? This guy even got tased for his trouble.

Again, just reading the transcript I’m not seeing that the guy initially treated her ‘brutally’…he seemed to ramp up when the driver refused the lawful order to leave the car after an initial back and forth confrontation. I haven’t watched the video, so maybe I’m missing something in not having done so.

Texas Penal Code, Title 5, Chapter 19 “Criminal Homicide”

Emphases mine

PBS Newshour reports so it has to be true that the officer broke the department’s procedural rules, which means he had no right to go into the car and pull the girl out. This constitutes assault, which is a crime … and now she’s dead.

BTW she didn’t argue with the citation.

Officer lies = cognizance of guilt. I wonder if he will enjoy being arrested. I’m sure it will be a very civil affair.

Watch the video before opining about who is at fault. I mean, it’s just a click away. How hard is that to do?

Sounds like what really chapped his hide was she kept calling him “puffy”. Note to self, never call a Texas cop “puffy”. Or better yet, stay a thousand miles away. Yeah, that’ll work…

Is there something in the video that’s not in the transcript cited earlier? I usually don’t enjoy watching that sort of thing, but if there is something more in there than what’s in the transcript I’ll gut through it.

Regardless, the jail was responsible for her wellbeing, and they failed.

Normally, I side with an officer when there’s a altercation. But this officer scares me.

Terr! Stop! He’s linking you to MSNBC! Its a trap!

(God I hope I wasn’t too late!)
