I am convinced that my sandwich for lunch tastes better wrapped in wax paper than it does in a plastic bag.
And, the paper can be spread out to catch the crumbs!
Any validity to the taste part, or am I making things up?

I take the wrapper off my sandwich before I eat it, so I’m not sure which of your choices tastes better.
To be serious, all other things being equal I can’t taste the difference between a sandwich that has never been wrapped and one that I packed in a sandwich bag.
It wouldn’t surprise me.
At least one person agrees and the suggestion is perhaps the plastic makes it taste worse - therefore you think the wax makes it taste better…

Waxed paper may provide a better environment for the sandwich to retain flavor. It won’t end up pressed tight against the bread and it breathes a little. Spreading it out to make a plate is a useful feature also. But it may just be nostalgic thing for you.
Tie the parcel up with red and white butcher’s twine tomorrow. Report back. I suspect it will taste even better that way.
As TriPolarnotes, maybe the wax paper lets the food breath more. It could be that the plastic sandwich bag creates too humid environment, making the bread soggy and the lettuce wilt a bit. It could be that you just like it that way; dining is an aesthetic experience.
Giraffe would always recommend using a plastic bag.
Now you’re just being silly!
I prefer to eat my food while it’s still breathing.
I think wax paper dries a sandwich out some. But I love wrapping things up in wax paper, neat and tidy, like origami. It’s easier to pick up. Plastic wrap, not so much, there’s always a problem with the cutting edge not sharp, the plastic wads up and sticks to itself, and the sandwich, once wrapped is just…limp. No body to it. Flopping around, soft and defenseless, same with a plastic baggie. So the wax paper wrapped sandwich wins, yes, I do think it tastes better.
Is this like how soda tastes better coming from a glass bottle than a plastic one?
I think pretty much any soda or beer tastes better from a glass than straight out of the bottle or can, but I assume it’s because an open glass lets one’s nose get the aroma much more than a bottle or can that has a very small opening. This also applies to coffee in regular mugs versus travel mugs with the tiny openings.
Maybe there is no actual difference but my brain tells me there is, particularly for beer.
I’ve never noticed a difference between glass versus plastic or can versus bottle.
Just like tequila tastes better from the navel of a comely lass of virtue true.
There’s one definite advantage that waxed paper has over baggies. With waxed paper you can climb to the top of the sliding board, lay the waxed paper waxed side down on the slide, sit on it, and slide down. Do this a couple of times and you’ll have a much faster sliding board experience. Try that with a baggie or plastic/saran wrap!
I was with you up until the bolded part.
