Quite simply, a place to share your best sandwich recipes. (Can they be called that?) Anyway, let’s see what you’ve got. I like some good chicken, swiss cheese, hummus, and lettuce on nice whole wheat. I think I may have to make myself one of those right now.
I like a thin sliced, Fried Bologna Sandwich (three slices blackened), with Lettuce, Tomato, and Miracle Whip. White Trash BLT.

Baloney, Lettuce, and Tomato.
Fresh (i.e. unaged) goat cheese and hot pepper jelly on wheat.
Grilled swiss cheese and tomato, with hot mustard.
Of course, you have to quadsect the baloney. You must make four radial slits to allow for shrinkage and curling during the perfect blackening and caramelization. You should end up with three Patee’ Cross Baloney slices.
I just made a very delicious sandwich tonight on the fly.
Grilled chicken breast, a slice of roasted red pepper, lettuce, onion, muenster cheese, and a sauce consisting of mayo, a tiny dab of honey BBQ sauce, and several “shots” of Tabasco Chipotle pepper sauce.
Toasted cheese and vegemite. Food of the gods.
Grilled muenster on pumpernickel with the thinnest spread of apricot jam.
Grilled swiss on dark, seeded rye with mashed avocado.
Roast chicken, walnuts and salad cream, all whizzed up in the food processor for just a moment.
Leftover mango chicken. That’s a BBQ chicken put in the oven with cream, curry powder and a tin of mango. Excellent the next day with lettuce.
Blue cheese and tomato toasted on foccacia with a sprinkle of Masterfoods All Purpose seasoning. Add rocket when it’s done.
Thinly sliced chorizo, applewood smoked cheese, taco sauce, grilled.
Arranged on a pizza… very thin crust. Smoked Gouda and smoked Mozzarella (maybe Monchega), real spanish link chorizo (paprikas)… dry cured, and a bit of crushed tomato, thin slices of Garlic, Spanish Olive Oil, Salt and Pepper, as base. Maybe add some Roasted Red pepper, sparingly.
Nom.
I always thought it looked more like a Maltese Cross …
Though if you get really thick cut mortadella [sort of like a baloney with chunks of fat and pistachios embedded in it] you can grill it in a foreman grill then put it on homemade sourdough with bavaran sweet mustard, lettice, a slice of red onion =)
Usually I get it at the half inch thickness. I maks a funky round loaf so one slice of mortadel goes for 2 sandwiches =)
Toasted white or sourdough bread, garden veggie cream cheese, sharp cheddar, roast beef and spinach. Yerm.
sounds like you have the same sandwich making method I do. I don’t have a favorite recipe, but I love to come up with exciting combinations. Roasted red peppers are delicious in sandwiches. I like to take a sub bun, split, butter and grill it while I figure out what to put in it. And just about any sandwich can be improved by adding swiss cheese and bacon.
Sandwiches are all about balancing flavors and textures.
ooh, I love sandwiches. Lately I’ve been experimenting with open face, and this one turned out well: put a bunch of roast turkey breast (or sliced deli turkey in a pinch) on whole wheat or whole grain bread. Throw a pineapple ring on top of that, and then a slice of swiss cheese. Put that under the broiler until the cheese is melted and enjoy. Mmm!
Rendered* pepperoni and muenster grilled on a Portugese roll, then add cold fresh tomatoe, basil, and salt and pepper.
*slowly baked at low temp until all the fat drips out. Leaves you with a crispy bit of highly flavored lace. Also fantastic crumbled on a salad.
Any variation of a Reuben sandwich.
Anything with pastrami in it.
Another good one is grilling a halibut fillet that’s been seasoned with curry powder then topping it with mango chutney and putting it in between some nice wheat bread.
