Sandy Hook a hoax?

That’s laudable that you’re avoiding conflict, but you’re giving your friend’s craziness equal billing to your rational beliefs.

Reminds me of the Isaac Asimov quote about ignorance:

“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

I had no clue that what I said wasn’t true. My mother states it so matter of fact-ly.

If someone is wrong you can say they are wrong. Clearly I’m misinformed but they really don’t need to be told “go away”. But I will since that’s clearly what it wanted.

Thank God. But know I have to call my cousin and find out where the hell he has been for the last 14 years. And I have to tell my girlfriend that one of her best friends from college was not killed in the Pentagon but has apparently been on a super secret mission for the Navy. His wife and new husband are not going to be happy when he shows up again.

I never stated that no one died.

I am not a moderator in General Questions so I will only answer this as a poster. This is for factual answers only. If you boldly make a statement as a fact people will demand a cite. “My mother told me” is not a valid cite. How old are you anyway?

28

So what were you trying to imply?

That the authorities didn’t allow parents to see their kids. That is what my mother told me. She is all over info on it so I had no clue this was unfounded. She has gone on and on about it even saying could you imagine losing your child and then you can’t even say goodbye to their physical body.

I really do apologize. Look, I meant no harm and I’m in the middle of being attacked online at other places and was just looking for a place to be able to calmly discuss topics. I’m in no frame of mind to debate something I know nothing about.

Please don’t let this little incident make you go away. You learned something about this place that you didn’t expect. I’ll spell it out to be sure you understand: if you make a strong statement like “No parent ever saw their children’s bodies,” then refer to where you got that from. Cite your source. If you had instead said “my mom says that no parent…,” and then put that you weren’t sure what to think about that, you would’ve received a better response.

Here’s a hint: If you don’t know anything about a subject, don’t make bold assertions as to what the facts are, especially when such assertions are extraordinary. As one wise man once said, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” “Mommy said so” does not constitute evidence.

But just think about the “parents never saw the bodies” theory. What would that even mean? That government agents rounded up the kids and whisked them away to a secret island somewhere? And told the parents that the kids were massacred by a lone nut? And this was the first step in gun-grabbing?

But this conspiracy doesn’t make SENSE. If you want to massacre a bunch of kids and blame a lone nut, then fine. If you want to just make up a fake news story about a massacre, then fine. But this semi-evil conspiracy of kidnapping the kids is too much work. Oh, you’re so evil you’re going to grab all the guns and turn America into a fascist police state, but you don’t wanna murder a bunch of kids? Just how evil are you?

If you’re namby-pamby evil you make up the media story out of whole cloth and everyone is an actor. If you’re actually evil you massacre the kids and blame the NRA.

Quasi-evil and the parents don’t see the kid’s bodies? What the hell is that about? What does that even mean? What exactly is the point of that conspiracy?

Conspiracy theories have to make a certain amount of sense. A bunch of islamist fanatics fly planes into national landmarks to retaliate against America. OK, makes crazy sense. The CIA invents a bunch of phony evidence that Iraq has chemical weapons to provide a pretext for invading Iraq. OK, makes crazy sense. These are conspiracies that actually happened.

But this particular Sandy Hook theory doesn’t make any sense even from the perspective of crazy evil people who want to disarm America’s patriots.

I’m sorry you inadvertently dropped a bomb here & are getting a heated reception.

We’re actually nice people. And able to discuss almost anything rationally. Provided folks are intellectually honest and use complete sentences. If your first post had been “My Mom says nobody died.” you’d have gotten a completely different reception. Several folks would probably have said unkind things about your Mom though.

My advice would be to drop this conversation & spend a few days reading & posting on other topics. Then you can decide whether to stay around for the long haul or not as it suits you.

Also if you do hang around here, note that our various forums have very different characters. This one is meant to be all-serious-truth-all-the-time. Others are for whimsical stuff or for arguing, or even for calling one another names.

With all due respect, then you should probably refrain from posting further in this thread (as you implied you were going to do previously).

What valuables? Also, from the books I read about the experiences of these firemen, they were too exhausted from climbing stairs to do much else. Several were reporting chest pains from the climb, and it’s thought that they collapsed in a big group to rest.

This seems…absurd. I’m not saying that fireman don’t occasionally steal, it certainly seems possible, but in a big public building surrounded by hundreds of their colleagues? This seems unlikely. If there were valuables in the WTC that were small enough to be worth carrying up and down that many flights of stairs, and worth the risk of getting caught, they aren’t going to be near a public stairwell. Those valuables will be locked up in safes. And how would you even find them, anyways?

All sorts of crazy things could be true about our world, but unless you have credible evidence, it’s a waste of time to believe in them.

But seriously. If someone told me that the authorities wouldn’t let the parents see their own kids’ dead bodies, I would think that was absolutely strange and would need some proof for such an incredible claim. Why would the police do that? For what possible reason?

I don’t mean to jump on you, but to accept such a wild claim and then spread it without any proof or verification isn’t good. You don’t have disregard what people tell you, but challenge people who say such extraordinary things to at least tell you where they read it, so you can judge for yourself.

Uh, what? If Bush thought that Iraq was worth invading because it was a risk, what about Russia? North Korea? Iran? And a dozen other countries who are both somewhat hostile to the United States and have the resources to make WMDs.

I think Bush’s chances of invading any of those countries is pretty much nil at this point.

A couple other foreign CTs I’ve heard of:

The polio vaccine is a plot by western nations to serilize Muslims. This CT is pretty much the entire reason why polio hasn’t been eradicated yet, like smallpox or riderpest.

The USA and/or Israel caused the Boxing Day tsunami in 2004. Apparently a popular CT in Indonesia. The details of how exactly we were supposed to have done this elude me.
