No kidding. Nixon publicly proclaimed he was a Keynesian in terms of economic policy and established the EPA during his administration. Can you imagine anybody in the Bush Administration doing anything like that now? Also, Tricky Dick’s proposed medical plan was far more liberal than anything the current Republicans (or even Bill Clinton) ever advocated.
What diocese in the U.S has the most priest abuse lawsuits? The liberalism hotbed of Covington, KY, which supported George W Bush in the last two elections.
Your cite is from June, 2002. I’m pretty sure Boston has overtaken those numbers by now, with totals over 200, from what I recall.
Actually, perhaps even dumber than Santorum’s original comments was a quote I read from some far-right Republican organization that blamed Kennedy and Kerry’s comments on them being “Bob Casey’s surrogate attack dogs.” As if some sort of ulterior motive is necessary for prominent Boston-area liberals being offended when you say that Boston-area liberalism has led to child sexual abuse.
Sorry, I don’t have a cite. I think it was in the Boston Globe this past week, though.
Bob Casey doesn’t NEED attack dogs. If Santorum is trying to win back support locally, this is gonna backfire.
Yeah. Still, I wish I could get the “make Santorum look bad” job for the Casey campaign. Just give the guy as many opportunities to look bad as possible, then relax and let him take care of the rest.
I heard a radio interview this week with Peter Isely, director for the Survivors Network for those Abused by Priests, which is where I learned that Covington was the worst. Likely the Covington numbers rose just like the Boston numbers, and is still the worst. I’d hope this guy would have current info, but I suppose it’s possible he was using out-of-date data, though.

It’s possible (if not likely) the interview I heard was speaking in terms of settlement money.
In any case, I suppose the point that priests molests kids in non-liberal areas too still pretty much stands.
Yes, it was, and yes, that’s what was said.
I’m getting damned tired of unrolling my eyes, I tell ya.
Bernard Law, the disgraced former cardinal of Boston, is about as conservative as you can get.
Wonder how Santorum would explain his behavior during the scandal?
tomndebb is right…it’s highly nauseating for anyone, right or left, to be making hay over this.
[QUOTEMatt C. Abbott, July 15, 2005]
In defense of Santorum, his commentary was written and posted when the scandal first exploded, which just happened to be in Boston.

Oh, puh-leeze. The fact that someone leaps to an idiotic and illogical conclusion before the evidence proving that the conclusion is, in fact, incorrect is no defense.
