What about repeatedly drinking and driving? I think that says something about the type of person she is. “Irresponsible” is a word that can safely be asserted as part of her actual character.
Sure, she’s irresponsible just like a lot of people her age. I used to drink and drive when I was younger, it wasn’t smart or responsible but it didn’t exactly make me a terrible person either. People like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan live their lives under a microscope and that just makes all of their mistakes look that much bigger. In reality they are no worse than most other young adults.
Biggirl and others said it all before I could. While I do have a problem with people thinking that actors’ lives should be up for speculation simply because they are working in Hollywood, Paris is famous for being famous. She owes her career to Silverman and anyone else who thinks her name is even worth mentioning. And while I normally don’t care for slut-bashing humor, I’m willing to make an exception for that racist, snobbish piece of human filth.

The ridicule comes with the territory. You want to be a celebrity in Hollywood these days then you should know that any social faux paus you commit will become instant fodder for comedians punch lines. If you can’t hack it then get out of the lime light and give someone else their 15 minutes. Or at least lay low until someone else blunders and everyone’s attention shifts.
You can’t tell me she really expected to go to the MTV awards hosted by Sarah Silverman on the eve of her well publicized jail sentence and not get roasted?
Well said. She purposely put herself in the spotlight in order to be seen, and turned herself into a media whore. Ok, fine. But it doesn’t take a genius to realize that once you’re the center of attention, anything you do is going to be splashed across newspapers and tabloids and your life will be exposed to the world. She put herself out there, impressed with herself as a young, thin party girl, then she fucked up and broke the law- on more than a couple occasions. As I understand it, her sentence is pretty consistent with what anyone would have gotten under the same circumstances, regardless of who they are.
I think that something good can come of this- maybe the jail time will knock her down a few pegs and she’ll become a more responsible adult that actually contributes to society for something more than just looking “so hot”- her words, not mine.

Crotch shots are inevitable when 1) you don’t wear underwear and 2) there is someone snapping a picture every time you get out of the car.
You forgot “3) you realize that 2) is going to catch you doing 1) and that this is free publicity, so you continue to do 1) to ensure that 2) doesn’t stop.”
Regardless of anyone’s feelings about Paris Hilton, this isn’t true. Her sentence is exactly in line with what others have received.
Maybe I’m missing something. She got a 3-year suspended sentence and violated the parole. Wouldn’t the standard sentence for that be to serve out the original three years?

No, it wouldn’t. Check the recent thread we had on sentences for violating DWI paroles.

And IG- I’d say Hilton isn’t what’s totally wrong with our generation, what’s totally wrong with our generation is that we are a bunch of people so desensitized by reality TV that we just sit in fits of giggles over the pain of other people.
As compared to the enlightened entertainment of which previous generation, exactly?
Not having seen the clip in question yet, I can’t totally give my agreement, but considering my opinion of Ms. Silverman, I’ll probably end up siding with DiosaBellissima.
I can’t watch Sarah Silverman without thinking she’s a profoundly broken person inside. She has every mannerism of the high school drama club improv team nerd whose method of dealing with their complete lack of self confidence and social graces was to act out, as outrageously as possible, in an effort to at least get a few laughs.
Once is repeatedly? She got one DUI and then drove on a suspended license twice. She didn’t get multiple DUIs.
IMO, there is no excuse for even one DUI, let alone driving on a suspended license (she was caught twice - surely she did it more than that) when you are richer than god and can easily afford to hire a personal driver or taxi.
Being familiar with Silverman’s style, I tend to think she was holding back quite a bit. She could have really been cruel had she wanted to. As it is, all she did was announce that Paris was going to jail (to get the obligatory applause) and then make one cheap sex joke. That’s just the beginning of a typical Silverman joke. Usually she then twists it around into something really perverse for shock effect, but she didn’t do that here.
Not a big deal at all, really. I’ve seen celebrities get verbally skewered in person WAY worse than that before. (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, anyone?)
That was rather lame. I chuckled a bit but I don’t think the joke or the delivery was all that great and more puerile than anything.

I don’t condone racism but I seriously doubt that you describe all racists as human filth. Sounds to me like you are just exhibiting standard, A grade bash the sexually promiscuous female attitude to me.
I really have no interest in Paris Hilton one way or the other but the hatred she gets does seem weird to me. Has she killed somebody that I don’t know about?
I think Silverman came off as vicious and spiteful in a high school, mean girl way. Paris is an easy target and calling her a slut is not very witty. She was kicking her when she was down. I don’t much give a rat’s ass about Paris Hilton, but Silverman seems like a worse person than the one she was attacking.

Sorry, but watching her and her sister laughing and yelling ‘We’re niggers!’ and then going off to sell their perfumes and purses just makes me (and the Baby Jesus, natch) cry. Not an ounce of sympathy should be lost on Ms. Hilton.
