Sarah the Quitter!

But does she really believe that? Does she really see that her administration is so bogged down with “opposition research” against her that “the team” is better of with her benched … or going to play in a different league or in a different sport?

And giving her the benefit of taking her at her word what does this say about her and what her effectiveness would be as a leader?

Nah. She is a runner and in the middle of a distance race with the grade increasing and she saw that a big hill is coming (Alaska’s coming budget crisis and who knows what else) that would hurt some to climb up, recognized that her heart wasn’t in it, and bagged out. She’s heading to a bar and figures that she can race again later and just claim that she was doing fine enough up until when she left and that she would have handled that hill just fine.

And truth is that it isn’t a bad choice. She was governor over a period of record oil prices which brought Alaska record revenues. That’s what made the start of her term a success. And that is gone for now. If she leaves her governorship with the economy in the dumpster and very unpopular then she has little future on the national scene in any capacity. Better to quit now before that happens and hope that some of the core buys what she’s selling. Enough to sell lots of books to and who knows? There may be enough antipathy to other Republicans running that her loyal core who just like her moxie can still keep her a force. Some small chance is better than no chance at all.

Coming budget crisis? It’s only a crisis if the legislature is too timid to spend some of the $40 billion it has in the permanent fund. Alaska is swimming in cash and the real estate crunch never materialized. Unemployment is up a bit, but doesn’t reflect the national numbers. We sold our house in 14 days at full price when we left in May.

Her poor decision-making skills are another matter entirely. Every time she makes a bad choice, whether it’s turning down stimulus dollars or nominating some slack-jawed moron to a state post, it highlights her most glaring fault: Sarah Palin is incapable of making a measured and thoughtful decision; facts are only an inconvenient nuisance. She puts no effort into researching issues and shoots from the hip on important matters. She’s a female George Bush in that regard. Her decisions over the past year have now piled up like a crowd at the exit in a burning theater, and her continued failures in this regard would eventually snuff any chances she has at a political future. This resignation is just the latest (and fatal, IMO) bad decision that she has made: a decision with little-to-no thought about the consequences of such a drastic and hasty action.

But it’s a fashionable stiletto heel, it’s expensive, it’s going to drop on my foot, and it’s going to hurt!

You mean this fund? That “$40 billion” aint what it used to be.

And that’s the kind of tough, really no win, budget decisions she would have to make if she stayed.

Yes indeed. A good point guard knows when to quit. If you want to win, strategic quitting is a part of any athletes repertoire. Even you can not make sense of that speech. I know you tried.

The Real Story Behind Palin's Bombshell | HuffPost Latest News Here is a nice friendly story on Palin. Her problems and attacks are coming from the Repubs. McCain’s people came out with stories about her lack of intellect and ethics. The story about her clothes came from Repub insiders. She is a joke for both the right and left. Her ethical violations are keeping her very busy. Lawyers are having a healthy economic climate in Alaska.

Maureen Dowd has a great column on Palin’s flight:

Nevr mind the Democrats, Palin has handed every potential contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 a gigantic bat to hit her with. The fact that she says the troops inspired her to cut and run should be especially useful.

Semi-sidetrack. I can’t find the Tina Fey sketches on NBC’s site. Somebody please give me shiny links?

Palin likes to think of herself as a victim, as this article illustrates. But what I don’t get is who she’s setting herself apart from in this statement on her Facebook page:

Any idea which ‘countless others’ she’s referring to who prematurely left their posts for a ‘higher calling’? Furthermore, how could she possibly be helping her country by abandoning her elected position? Is she planning on joining the military or something?

Oh, sweet Jesus, no! No! No!

Maybe she’s talking about cases like Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton where someone leaves their current office to take another job in government. Of course, becoming President or Secretary of State is a little different than becoming Princess of the Universe in the freaky-deaky little psychodrama that’s running on a continuous loop inside your own head.

The thought that immediately comes to mind is that she is talking about Obama, who left his Senate seat to become president. But the statement is obviously retarded, since he remained in his seat right up until he was actually elected president. If she is not elected, which she won’t be, then what will she be? Just another unemployed douchebag.

You betcha! Here ya go.

I’ll say it again: Sarah Palin/Tonya Harding 2012!

Rahm Emmanuel. Hillary Clinton. Janet Napolitano. Kathleen Sebelius. Ray LaHood. Hilda Solis. All Cabinet members. Three former Representatives, two former Governors, and one former Senator. Surely you knew that they quit the jobs they were doing to do what they are doing now, right?

I’m not real keen on the martyr stuff that she’s pulling, but in that respect she’s not wrong, lots of others have quit and gone on to other things with nary a peep.

Was she just appointed to some important post we have yet to have heard about? What’s the big secret? In those cases you mention, did they announce their resignations prior to the public announcement of their appointments?

Are you suggesting Obama might have a job for Palin? I would find that quite surprising to say the least.

Airman all of those went on to actual jobs actually, uh, serving the country. Selling your celebrityhood, becoming a media pundit, or even stumping for other candidates don’t exactly qualify. Running for President, maybe, but this is still a bit far ahead of the need to quit the current job to do that.

And if Palin had announced that she was quitting her job as governor to, say, replace Michael Steele as head of the RNC, nobody would be giving her any shit for it. That’s a perfectly reasonable shift from one major responsibility to another.

But instead she seems to be ditching her responsiblities entirely … whether it’s to cash in, gear up, or hide out isn’t clear yet.

The big difference is that they all left for a good reason - to take a job with the new administration. This happens every time there is a new President. Sarah Palin quit in the middle of her term to do what? Whine about the media? Obama’s got an entire network slamming him every day, plus the Limbaughs and Hannitys and all the other local and national wannabes ripping on him 24/7. That woman has no spine.

Actually, I suspect the big secret is some sort of scandal, the word is that it is about some misappropriation of government money. And there is no way that Obama will be giving her a job.

Anyway, let’s not move the goalposts here. You asked who she could be referring to. It doesn’t matter how you choose to justify it, those are undoubtedly the people she is referring to.
