Yes, but what McCain’s team is counting on is the fact that most voters have the attention span of a gnat, and this won’t even be on the radar in a week.
I don’t watch a lot of news or commentary – local TV news, Olberman and Matthews, The Daily Show, and NPR – is that why the only place I’ve seen mention of Troopergate is on-line?
I’ve heard plenty about the Bridge, the library board, the loyalty oaths, creationism, victims paying for rape kits, the Bush Doctrine, and the earmarks, but nothing about firing the trooper. I was wondering if that story was being held back for some reason.
If I’m not hearing it from the liberal media, maybe McCain’s base isn’t hearing it either.
Olbermann has been all over the Troopergate story. McCain’s camp is desperately trying to suppress it.
Steve MB: This is the one and only time I’ve had any respect or have agreed in any way with [del]Warthogboy’s[/del] Dan Fagan’s opinion. Granted, he has not been a Palin fan from the outset, but he actually brought up some good points in this editorial. I have to wonder, though, just how honest he’s being, or if his hatred of Mooselini is just getting him all frothed up.
Merkwurdigliebe: I’m hoping that our legislators will take offense at being dictated to by Outsiders, and reject the notion that the investigation isn’t necessary or even legal. This investigation started before Palin was a gleam in McCain’s eye, and even predates her governorship. The bi-partisan council voted 14-0 for the investigation, but the governor’s spokewoman has announced that the unanimous vote is now old news and that some members are recanting. I can’t wait for the political blowback and fallout when Palin loses and has to come crawling back to her constituents to explain her actions. She’ll have some company, however.
Yes, we certainly have an interest in justice. I’ve lost count, but there are at least four legislators serving time right now and another under indictment. We also have one of our U.S. senators on trial (his son, a former state senator, is being investigated) and our representative is under investigation. These are all corruption charges (stemming from the oil industry-what a shock!) and sentences. We take this shit seriously up here, and I’m happy to see it finally come to a head.
Palin’s Yahoo email account hacked. She deletes it.
The latest wrinkle is classic. McCain sent some legal firepower to Alaska to shine the rubes. They filed a complaint against their *own client *with the board empowered to investigate ethics problems, on the grounds that the legislative investigation isn’t legal and proper, and the issue needs to be resolved by a panel of persons directly appointed by Buffy, the Bullwinkle Slayer. (That’s my line…I stole it, and its mine…)
Now they have come before that same board where they filed a complaint against their own client, and have said, with a straight face: “We have thorougly investigated these charges we have brought, and determined there is no substance therein. Therefore, the charges we brought should be dismissed, and the whole matter shitcanned.”
You can’t make shit like this up!
Damnit!
You know, if I knew more about that kind of stuff I would have tried it a long time ago…
Problem is that whoever did this was an idiot! You don’t hack this kind of email an just give out the password! What you do is silently forward all emails to a seperate account and then expose them on the internet!
Hopefully Yahoo has backups. I’m sure they do somehow, it’s just a question if they can easily be provided with a subpoena.
We seem to be recycling our “gates” here. Wasn’t “troopergate” originally a scandal involving then-Gov. Bill Clinton misusing state troopers for personal business?
TROOPERGATE2
The Moosening!
Really? If so that makes it the THIRD. Because the second would have been Eliot Spitzer. Eliot Spitzer did something of the sort. Did Bill do it to?
I thought that was Giuliani, not Spitzer, and it was NYPD and not troopers.
Nope Spitzer and Clinton.
Given the exaggerated magnitude (and the fact that, unlike Horndog Bill’s “troopergate”, this one is actually about something)
AND
the pervasive incidence of bull-flop, flying and flung
AND
the careful collection, sorting and examination of said flops
I propose: Super Dooper Pooper Scooper Troopergate!
I await plaudits and kudos with calm modesty.
Wow man, Hyperbole must be your middle name.
Meh, seen better from you. I give it one slightly twisted grin.
It’s everywhere. Read all about it and weep for this nation. My new girlfriend, Rachel Maddow, even interviewed the fired trooper on her new show the other day.
Get in line…
She interviewed Monegan.
The trooper is still on the job, I thought.
Put up your dukes. . .
He is. That’s what I meant. Phone was ringing and I flew through my typing. Sorry for any confusion.
I live here and have watched this bitch do her thing for the past 10 years. I also know how people here will react to this sort of manipulation. Man. Or is it ‘dude’?
Now it seems that Palin’s staff won’t testify:

This is the part that blew me away:
So they are quite clearly stating here: Loyalty to party and person BEFORE loyalty to the State of Alaska and it’s Constitution.
How is this not insulting to everyone in Alaska?
