SarahWitch, the premier expert on American law.

Nah, they are just being disingenuous and know exactly what they’re doing.

“it”

He-she-it. (Say it quickly.)

Not a clown in the storm drain!

No, just a witch.

Well, don’t keep us in suspense. What names?

(I assume they saw it in the “welcome to our latest poster” thing.

Well, SarahWitch is more than a little clownish and delivers quite the volume of effluent, so yeah, “it” seems fitting.

Great, now I’ll have to wait 3 days to find out how the Civil war really ended.

Nice…!!!

Spoiler: Cap and Tony agree to disagree and go their separate ways.

It’s in the water. That’s why it’s yellow.

Bear Whiz beer!

That’ll fix 'em!

I don’t think so.

There is a frequently expressed idea on the SDMB that racism is at the root of most social troubles. There were a number of people who persistently posted that the Tea Party was simply formed as a racist reaction to Obama’s election–disregarding the fact that it had its origins in reaction to (and during the presidency of) G W Bush. (Obama’s election certainly allowed a large number of racists to join the Tea Party, but it was not created for racist purposes.)

Similarly, there are a number of groups, (Sovereign Citizens primary among them, some libertarians joining in), that hold the Civil War as a defining moment in the destruction of their view of utopia and, accordingly, regard Lincoln as the antichrist and the prevention of secession as a clear example of Big Bad Government triumphing. To support that view, a revision of history requires that the issue of slavery be downgraded to a footnote, as if the Southern states simply proposed a mild separation for no particular reason other than a desire for independence.

For such people racism is not a primary cause, although they will accept racists into their ranks as long as the racists stick to arguing the “facts” of sovereignty.

Sovereign to do what?

I’m not trying to be a smart ass. Honestly asking if they go on further to explain.

I’m not trying to be a smart ass. Sovereign to not obey any laws.

I was more getting at how they rationalize their common cause with racists (for a sovereign south), if their’s is not primarily an argument for maintaining slavery.

Since the subject has been suspended, I’m closing this.
