My daughter is applying to Tufts University. She has very good SAT (1400)and ACT (29) scores but only so-so SAT II (550-640) scores. Tufts will accept ACT scores in lieu of SAT II’s. It seems to me that she is better off submitting the SAT and ACT scores and just ignoring the fact that the SAT II’s were even taken. Is this valid reasoning? Is there some way this could be disadvantageous to her?
Usually, schools will accept the ACT or SAT I for admission; the SAT II subject tests are used for placement only.
The Tufts admission website states
Which seems to imply that the choice is (SAT-I and 3 SAT-II) OR (ACT). Usually when a school will take test A or test B, they will choose the one with the highest score. If your daughter feels that 29 on the ACT is competitive for admission, she could elect not to take/retake and more SAT II tests.
Any questions she has about what she should do really should be directed to the staff in the Admissions office. There should be Admissions counselors available who will be more than interesting in assisting her in putting together the most competitive application she can for the school.
Well, I had her call the admissions office. Despite the wording on the website, which to me suggests either/or, they said to definately submit SAT I and ACT.
