Standardized Testing

So I am taking the ACT for the second time on Saturday to improve over my last score (29 overall, 26 math, 32 english), and I am wondering if I should bother with the SAT or any other sort of testing. Anyone have any experiences or suggestions on whether or not to take one, the other, or both?

Well I never took the SAT at all. I was able to get into college easily enough (with a nice scholarship, I might add) just with my ACT scores and GPA.

Honestly, I wish I’d taken the SAT. It wouldn’t have been necessary, but it probably would have been a good idea.

You should probably take both tests for good measure.

I will agree that taking both is probably a good idea.

I took the SAT twice, and got 1200 both times. I took the ACT once, and scored 32 overall.

After checking an ACT-SAT score equivalency chart (like this ), I found that my ACT score equivalency was much higher than my actual SAT score.

If you take both, you have the option of sending out whichever score is better.

Good luck!

It also depends on what kinds of schools you are applying to. If you plan to apply to any colleges in the northeast, I would highly recommend taking the SAT.

I am mostly going for stuff out in the west…despite the fact that I live in the right coast… I am looking into several major schools, such as: Brigham Young University, University of Southern California, and Polytech in NoCal.

The guidance department at my daughter’s high school recommended that the students take both. That’s what she intends to do. In fact, I need to get her signed up right away… we keep forgetting and since I’m the one paying, I need to do the signing, I guess.
