saturn console question

is there anyone here that owned a saturn console system? If so, was it a good system?

I own one, but only have a few games for it at the moment.

It didn’t live too long in the USA, but it did have quite a long life in Japan. There were a lot of games released there that weren’t released here. I hear that some of the best games were released on the Saturn, but unfortunately, many of those were only released in Japan.

Unfortunately, you run into a couple of problems buying Japanese games. Many of them don’t have English as a language option, so you’re either going to have to learn Japanese or poke around in a game’s menu and try to figure out what does what.

Another problem is compatibility. Japanese games aren’t compatible with a US system without some sort of mod, but you could probably buy a Japanse system if you wanted, as I think the power and TV system is the same. Of course, then you couldn’t play any US games in it without modding it.

If you’re not willing to import, the system is still pretty cheap and has some pretty good games in the US, like Virtua Fighter 2, NiGHTS into Dreams (be sure to get the analog controller bundled with this game, it works with the regular controller, but not as good), Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon II, and Panzer Dragoon Saga (though, I dont’ know if PDS is worth the high price it usually sells for)

As for good Japanese games, I really wouldn’t have a clue about most of them. I suppose you could ask on the Saturn board on Gamefaqs.

One of my roommates had a Saturn, when I had roommates a few years back. I thought it was a decent system, in and of itself. The graphics were pretty good for the time, and the games we had were fun. But there just weren’t many games available for it, which was of course a problem. I wasn’t aware at the time of the Japanese games Mikahw talks about, which is too bad. Sounds like I might have missed out on some good stuff.

Erm… trying to remember what games we even had for it. Duke Nuke 'Em, I remember playing alot, but of course, you could’ve gotten that for many systems. There was also a pretty good baseball game, and a decent hockey game, but I forget the names of those. Oh! The best game we had! This completely silly, very Japanese, extremely addictive Tetris knock-off called Baku Baku. Those are the ones I remember.
