Savannah Guthrie (Today Show, co-anchor) mother missing

I have to say, I never thought there’d be so much speculation about a crime scene “glove”. Again.

Tent’s by the front door.

I’ve seen too many of them in missing persons case.

The reporting I saw on CNN this evening discussed the just-released physical description of the suspected kidnapper, including his height, and one ex-FBI (I believe) panel expert pointed out that an investigator on the scene at tent time was carrying an apparatus for calculating a person’s height based on known measurements of items in photographic evidence. I would assume the tent was in place to aid in that process by eliminating confounding background stuff.

Rain is expected on Friday. A tent makes sense. Investigators coming in or out might just be on their way in or out of the house.

What is the point of the tent? What does it signify?

Tents are often used by forensic anthropologists and coroners for privacy when recovering remains. Shows respect for the victim and dignifies the recovery procedure.

I was skeptical in this case. It’s unimaginable a criminal would hang around the scene and bury a body by the porch steps.

I suspect they are just preserving the crime scene until they are absolutely sure they haven’t missed anything. Like I said, it is raining tomorrow, and putting up a tent is a precaution that requires little effort or expense.

That makes sense.

Meanwhile TMZ received a new letter.

Yes it is. There’s zero chance they put the tent there because they think they are going to exhume her buried body from next to the front steps.

It’s day 12. There’s alway a slim chance she’ll be found alive. At least there is still communication and undisclosed money transfered into the Bitcoin account.

That family is made up of over-achievers. Savannah a journalist and co-host on a morning network show. Cameron a retired F16 pilot who served in the U.S. military for well over 20 years. He later served in the ‘Green Mountain Boys’ — the Vermont Air National Guard.

I think they’re a resilient family that will get through this tragedy regardless of the outcome.

Interesting article. It’s not informative enough with anything new for me to burn a gift link.

They explained my own and my family’s interest in this case.

I can’t help but wonder what it must be like to get abducted by some rash person and then held for 13 days against one’s will. If it were me, I think I’d probably end up with some kind of stress disorder at the least.

Have you encountered any data regarding the percentage of Americans who are interested in this case?

No desire to say you ought not be interested, and no intent to threadshit. But I would imagine a decent percentage of Americans - if not a majority, have little or no interest. I often find it interesting how at various times a single crime story seems to garner great media attention.

Eh. . . I dunno. Your first post in this thread, and it amounts to wondering why anyone would be interested in this story. Comes pretty close.

Anyway, my 2¢: A lot of us (Americans, anyway) like to follow “true crime” stories. To each his own. I don’t understand why people liked “The Office.” I’m part of the minority there, but that’s just the way it is.

Everyone loves a mystery and the opportunity to guess the solution. It’s a shame that usually involves horrible things happening to other people and exploitive and sensationalistic coverage by the media.

I keep thinking Nancy Guthrie almost made it through her 84 year-old life without directly experiencing the savage and brutal side of humanity. What a F’d up way to go.

Well, I guess there’s still a sliver of hope that she will survive. It doesn’t seem like the family have given up yet.

How could you possibly know that?

I don’t know it for certain. I qualified that there’s a slim chance that she will miraculously survive.

I’m also pragmatic and a realist. Day 13 for a heart patient without her medication.

You also don’t have much of a basis for a lot of your speculation

I’m not speculating. Nancy has gone through a terribe and savage experience. Her blood was on the porch. Treating a 84-year old woman like that is horrible.

Whatever the final outcome.
