I want to save Firefox and Chrome in an executable form so that I can instal it on comp?
so that I can install it on a computer that has incredibly slow download times. How do I do this?
It sounds like a pretty easy problem. You can just download Firefox here for example and burn the installer exe to CD. Do the same with Chrome.
Do you know how to burn files to a CD-R?
Download the setup.exe, put it on the CD, then run it from the CD on the computer you want it installed on.
What am I missing?
If you want something smaller, there is also a portable version of Firefox available, which will easily fit on most USB drives (9 MB download).
I do know how to burn to a CD.
So the setup.exe file is the only one that needs to be copied? Do I discover that by simply right clicking of the appropriate file in my download window?
You can’t go directly onto the CD, as you discovered.
To burn it (in Windows), put a blank CD in the drive. Drag the file you want to burn onto the icon for the CD drive. Open the CD drive icon. You’ll see “There are files waiting to be copied to CD.” Click on that and follow the wizard (the defaults are fine).
Yip. That’s the easiest way. The setup file is the file you downloaded from the net.
The only time you’ll have problems with this is if a program uses a downloader instead of an installer. In that case, you’ll have to look for the “full” or “self-contained” version.
But Chrome and Firefox use regular setup files. So the file you downloaded from the net can be copied directly to the blank CD, following the directions above.
