Save the Galactica!!

Save the Battlestar Galactica from shame!

Does anyone remember Battlestar Galactica? It was originally aired in 1978 and 1979. A piss poor spin off called Galactica: 1980 aired in 1980. BSG was a good sci-fi show for its time. I’ve heard people put it down for it having obviously faked effects. (Most of these people swear by the effects in Star Trek: The Original Show!)

Well, for those of you who remember the show and actually enjoyed it, did you know there are two producers fighting to resurrect the show? One of the production companies is headed by Glen A. Larson (responsible for “Nightman” which is now canceled) and Todd Moyer (“Barb Wire”, “Virus”, and “Wing Commander”). These two are apparently after the name “Galactica” only. The ‘official’ Battlestar Galactica web sight states that these two men wish to discard the original cast, the theme of the show, and even eliminate the Galactica herself!

Larson and Moyer have done work for Studios USA before. Studios USA is apparently the proprietor of the USA network and the Sci-Fi Channel. The great work of this studio can be seen in “Sliders.” A good show was completely butchered by these barbarians! Studios USA also owns “The Jerry Springer Show,” a great bastion of American TV. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but most of the shows listed on Studios USA web sight seem to be slimy and even watching them long enough to flip through the channel makes me feel like I’ve just lost half my intelligence.

Studios USA current wonder shows are “Cleopatra 2525” and “Jack of All Trades.” I have not seen these shows myself, but some of my friends have seen them and their mutual opinion is that the suck. One of my friends said the “Cleopatra 2525” was a bunch of woman fighting a clown. (Sounds more like a porno plot to me.)

Richard Hatch, who played Captain Apollo in the original series, owns the other production company, Shu-Shann. His plans call for the return of available original cast members and to pick up the story line twenty years later, ignoring “Galactica: 1980.” Mr. Hatch has even produced a trailer to show what he can do. Some stills from this can be found on the Battlestar Galactica we sight. Mr. Hatch has even wrote several novels on the subject, none of which I have read yet.

Even though the original BSG is more than twenty years old now, it is more realistic that most of the shows that Studios USA is currently producing. I personally do not think that Galactica should become nothing more than a bunch of female models wanna be actors running around pretending to shoot things. While I do admire a good-looking female body, I do not watch TV for the sole purpose of getting it up!! I did not watch B5 for the good looks of Ivanava. I didn’t watch ST:TNG for their females. I lost interest in ST:V because the producers seem to think that if the put 7of9 in more seens, they’ll get better ratings. Sci-Fi should be kept as stories, not a direct competitor for undersexed perverts like “Bay Watch.”

Support Richard Hatch’s attempt to purchase the rights to the show from Studio USA or movie rights from Universal.

Keep the Battlestar Galactica what it was and what is should be!

I agree fully.

Let the dead stay dead.

And Cattlecar Galaxitive deserves to stay dead more than manny others.

You are aware, of course, that the very Glen Larson you deride was the man who created the origingal show?

er, original, too.

I was bemused enough to check the IMDB on “Galactica”.

Turns out, Larson’s project involves the Battlestar Pegasus finding Earth, and Commander Cain’s investigation into whether the first Battlestar (the Atlantis) had colonized the planet. FWIW, I liked the episode with the Pegasus. Lloyd Bridges, wasn’t it? “What should we do about the Battlestar?” “Silence, I am watching the Galactica be destroyed.” “No, the other Battlestar.” (paraphrased)

The actor’s project will be concentrating on the armada twenty years later. Larson’s project sounds like a better movie to me, but what do I know, I liked Buckaroo Banzai

Do you have a link to a web sight. I tried but couldn’t find anything about any other Battlestar projects.

Try www.imdb.com and search on Galactica. Not a lot of information on things in production, but its a start.

Oh No, not another Galactica! People I knew (way back when) actually included BG (plots and characters) into their religious beliefs. Yes, this was in California.

I struggle every day to be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

It’s “web SITE”, NOT “web SIGHT”. “Web SIGHT” doesn’t make sense. “Web SITE” means a location on the World Wide Web. You try to define “web SIGHT”. Go on, I dare ya. What does it mean, something you SAW on the web?

I was hoping I’d heard the last of Battlestar Propylactica. Most of Glen Larson’s shows suck and Richard Hatch is just trying to revive a dead, undistinguished career.

jab, jab, jab . . . tsk. “most of Larson’s shows suck???”

What about Knight Rider, dammit?

“Michael Knight . . . a lone crusader in a dangerous world . . . whe world of the Knight Rider!”

ok, ok. They sucked. Sigh . . .

Jab, after having seen the treatment and listening to Hatch, I’d have to say let him have a chance to make it. He has an enthusiasm and some decent ideas. That said, Don’t let Larson mangle it. Hatches group has potiential I think.

All right, I shouldn’t condemn something I haven’t seen. As for Hatch, I just checked IMDB and he’s been working a little more lately, though I haven’t seen anything he’s done. They also have a listing for his version of Galactica here: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0193000 But note that they have a 1999 date for the thing. Larson’s version is described here, but note they have much less info for this version: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0191815

Besides, why should I complain? They aren’t going to spend MY money and they can’t force me to see it if I don’t want to.

Please people, Galactica should stay dead. Any civilization stupid enough to lose a war to the Cylons deserves oblivion.
